Description: The Gate Restaurant in London's Hammersmith is the capital's most successful vegetarian restaurant. Founded and operated by brothers Adrian and Michael Daniel, The Gate specialises in their uniquely personal style of cooking, one they characterise as Indo-Iraqi Jewish modulated by French and Italian influences. The brothers do some of their own foraging, particularly for wild mushrooms in season, and otherwise source the freshest local and organic produce for their dishes. With its high ceilings and large windows, the dining room is atmospheric and attractive, always lively day or night and, in summer, the courtyard adds a lovely space ready to be squabbled over by sun worshipping diners. Its rare to find vegetarians so well looked after so its no wonder that The Gate has been a veggie mecca for more than ten years now. Even the wine list features organic, vegetarian and vegan wines, a perfect complement to The Gate's vegetarian cuisine.

Funnily enough, it's quite difficult to find vegetarian restaurants in London. I came across to this one by coincidence and I really enjoyed it. I went with a friend and we shared everything. 2 staters and 1 main. It's not specially cheap, but the service was excellent and the food very well presented and tasty. The dishes are not excessively... More

We are not vegetarians, this restaurant was recommended to us by my nephew for a pre concert meal. We arrived early and were accommodated straightaway without fuss. Found the food to be very tasty and of a high quality. I had the courgette flower and my husband had the the Beetroot ravioli, for starters. For mains I had the butternut... More

I visited this restaurant due to the great reviews on tripadvisor and secondly its locality to the Hammersmith Apollo. This is a great restaurant as the menu is exciting, different and varied. I tend to find the menus in most veggie restaurants not too inspiring and disappointing but the Gate is none of these! I shared the Japanese rolls which... More

Lovely restaurant across the street from Saddler's Wells. It delivered on speed, quality of food, inventiveness and eye appeal. The food was excellent, served with style and piping hot. As a new vegetarian it gave me all sorts of ideas. My friend and I told our waitress to tell the manager that a restaurant like this would make a killing... More

I've wanted to visit The Gate for a while now and finally got the chance to check it out for lunch today. I reserved a table online and mentioned in the comments my intolerance to gluten and onions. When I arrived, the waitress (who was really wonderful) came over and talked me through the menu and had even written down... More

We booked this restaurant for a meal before the Kate Bush concert, and were delighted that they played Kate Bush throughout! It was a gorgeous evening, and the place was so bright and fresh with sun shinning through the huge window. There is such a fun and relaxed atmosphere here, all good, even before ordering food! We had the shared... More

3 of us went to The Gate for our last night in London and were impressed by the service and the food. Also managed to witness a proposal a few tables away which was pretty special! Made a reservation online with their website which is also well laid-out and easy to use. Portion sizes were decent (my large Sweet Potato... More

Had a fabulous early evening meal at The Gate in Islington with a girlfriend last night and was astounded that vegetarian food could be so inspiring and tasty. Started with the beetroot ravioli which was presented like a dish from a Michelin-starred establishment and the taste was an equal match. I then had the sweet potato salad which was utterly... More

The Gate has always been a lovely place to eat, but after their rebuild, it's even better. The room has lost nothing of its charm and gained an even greater feeling of space and light. And then the food: creative as ever, especially with the (largely) delicate starters. Main courses remain hearty, on the whole, and flavour, flavour, flavour. The... More

Popped in here for Lunch today (Sunday 7th Sept) before we left for our flight home. What a fantastic way to end an amazing weekend. We ordered our food and asked that it all be served at once both starter dishes and mains. Thai Salad - plentiful and full of texture and flavour. Japanese rolls - OMG these were works... More
