Description: The Gate Restaurant in London's Hammersmith is the capital's most...
The Gate Restaurant in London's Hammersmith is the capital's most successful vegetarian restaurant. Founded and operated by brothers Adrian and Michael Daniel, The Gate specialises in their uniquely personal style of cooking, one they characterise as Indo-Iraqi Jewish modulated by French and Italian influences. The brothers do some of their own foraging, particularly for wild mushrooms in season, and otherwise source the freshest local and organic produce for their dishes. With its high ceilings and large windows, the dining room is atmospheric and attractive, always lively day or night and, in summer, the courtyard adds a lovely space ready to be squabbled over by sun worshipping diners. Its rare to find vegetarians so well looked after so its no wonder that The Gate has been a veggie mecca for more than ten years now. Even the wine list features organic, vegetarian and vegan wines, a perfect complement to The Gate's vegetarian cuisine.

Among best vegetarian in Europe

Ok. That's true. It is one among the best fully vegetarian restaurant around the Europe. Fusion cousine that finally let you eat also with your eyes. A suggestion? Fennel and dolcelatte rotolo.. Yummy!

Usually vegetarians face a choice of one or two items on a menu - here, making a decision was extremely hard. The Gate almost takes vegetarian cuisine to a new level, and at a pretty reasonable price too. It is a high-class restaurant in every respect, it just happens not to serve dead animals.

As somebody that does not particularly love meat but is not vegetarian the Gate has been on my list of places to visit for a while. Perhaps this raised my expectations. It is a quirky restaurant on the first floor of a converted artist studio and quite spartan. the food is ehm, vegetarian - God they have to try hard... More

I was recommend this restaurant by a friend. We both share similar tastes in food and enjoy eating out in vegetarian places. (we are vegetarian/vegan) I booked it for a birthday brunch and had a lovely experience. The waiters were very attentive, the place was very spacious but most importantly the food was just what I wanted! I ordered the... More

First impression, you do have 2 flights of stairs to walk up to restaurant, toilets on ground floor, restaurant is quite small, tables very close together, you can hear the conversation at the next table! You should book as its a very popular place. Anyway to the food, I found the choices excellent, Starters i opted for the 3 onion... More

The Gate is just around the corner from the hammersmith Apollo so its quite handy if you're going to see a gig there. Got directions from Happycow and found the Gate which is quite obscured behind some sort of church - you would probably miss it if you weren't looking for it. I didn't have a reservation but managed to... More

As a long time vegetarian i am always on the look out for a good veggie restaurant so was delighted to have found this place. Oddly located, the building is lovely, set behind a cute courtyard. We were quickly shown to our small table and given the menu by the lady you seemed happy to leave. The menu was simple... More

It is wonderful to find a vegetarian restaurant that produces such imaginative and creative meals. This is true haute cuisine and I cannot recommend it highly enough. We had the starter meze which enabled us to try every one of their delicious dishes. Worth doing. We've already booked to go back.

The food was great! However the service was not! Lukewarm wine served. The waitress seemed put out that we would like it cold. We had to ask for the waitress to come over regarding our order. She was quite sullen. It detracted from what was otherwise a good experience. The 12.5 service charge should not have been added to our... More
