Description: The Gate Restaurant in London's Hammersmith is the capital's most successful vegetarian restaurant. Founded and operated by brothers Adrian and Michael Daniel, The Gate specialises in their uniquely personal style of cooking, one they characterise as Indo-Iraqi Jewish modulated by French and Italian influences. The brothers do some of their own foraging, particularly for wild mushrooms in season, and otherwise source the freshest local and organic produce for their dishes. With its high ceilings and large windows, the dining room is atmospheric and attractive, always lively day or night and, in summer, the courtyard adds a lovely space ready to be squabbled over by sun worshipping diners. Its rare to find vegetarians so well looked after so its no wonder that The Gate has been a veggie mecca for more than ten years now. Even the wine list features organic, vegetarian and vegan wines, a perfect complement to The Gate's vegetarian cuisine.

Told over the phone I could bring a cake to blow candles and when I asked the waitress to bring it over after the dinner, the manager came shouting at me telling me that whoever told me that was wrong. He put the cake on the table without any knife or fork and treat me like I was lying about... More

I've been here before and really liked it, but that was two years ago and this time was not as good. Putting to one side the fact that our order was forgotten and it was an hour before we ate anything but bread (the waitress was very nice and apologetic), it was the food that let it down. I had... I chose The Gate to take my friend for her birthday. We were not disappointed. The Gate in Hammersmith has a great atmosphere and friendly helpful staff. To top it off the good was fantastic! Gluten free and Vegan options are available on the menu which was great for both of us. The pineapple, pear and chilli crumble not only... More

First time I'd been here. Used to be a vegetarian so my wife took me here for lunch for my birthday. The food was just superb. We got the mezzes for both starters and dessert so we could try out more dishes. We got the superb bread selection too, so to be honest we didnt need the main course too.... More

Ok so the food was good lets not get that wrong albeit the main course portion size was small. We visited this restaurant with a Groupon deal of starter, main course and either a glass of beer or wine for 2 for £25, good value. The waiter did not let us sit down before asking for the voucher, not once... More

We visited at lunchtime on a Tuesday. The service was excellent with polite, friendly staff. The menu was extensive and interesting and the food delicious. I will definitely be back.

This vegetarian restaurant was excellent. Service was good and so was the food. I am Gluten intolerant they had meals I could eat, I would have liked a Gluten free bread or roll option, to go with the soup available for me however.

I am a carnivor by inclination so when friends suggest this restaurant I had low expectations. However the food was amazing and I really enjoyed the variety of flavours. The service and ambiance was OK but seemed a bit dull which makes the five stars only four. I would recommend this restaurant to friends who normally eat meat.

This restaurant is in a very busy part of London, but it is tucked away in a courtyard so, once inside, you could easily be in the countryside. The vegetarian foods are packed with flavour and very substantial. And, the freshly prepared fruit drinks are very good indeed. This is the sort of food that you can really enjoy eating... More

Wow, talk about a piece of luck, stumbling upon this place. We were in London for the weekend to see Kate Bush at the Apollo just down the road. I did a bit of internet search for vegetarian food in the area and The Gate popped up - so we decided to try it for a late lunch. Firstly, the... More
