Description: The Gate Restaurant in London's Hammersmith is the capital's most...
The Gate Restaurant in London's Hammersmith is the capital's most successful vegetarian restaurant. Founded and operated by brothers Adrian and Michael Daniel, The Gate specialises in their uniquely personal style of cooking, one they characterise as Indo-Iraqi Jewish modulated by French and Italian influences. The brothers do some of their own foraging, particularly for wild mushrooms in season, and otherwise source the freshest local and organic produce for their dishes. With its high ceilings and large windows, the dining room is atmospheric and attractive, always lively day or night and, in summer, the courtyard adds a lovely space ready to be squabbled over by sun worshipping diners. Its rare to find vegetarians so well looked after so its no wonder that The Gate has been a veggie mecca for more than ten years now. Even the wine list features organic, vegetarian and vegan wines, a perfect complement to The Gate's vegetarian cuisine.

Very Good Vegetarian Restaurant

Third visit to this restaurant in Hammersmith - a bit of a trek for us, but the worth it. Great variety of choices. Nothing pretentious just delicious food with great service. Would go back, but such a shame they closed down their Belsize branch years ago - we used to be regulars there.

Visited few times and never left disappointed. Food is tasty, fresh and well presented. wine is amazing and loved the dessert. Only minus is that we had to wait quite a while for our main courses so maybe not the ideal choice if you're in a rush.. But the wait is definetely worth it. Will go back again and again

Most of the food was pretty good and tasty. Imaginative menu. Service astonishingly slow if friendly enough. Chairs uncomfortable and quite a noisy room. All in all ok, but not a perfect dining experience by any means.

As I am not a vegetarian I have often been disappointed with vegetarian restaurants! In this case though I did not miss the lack of meat at all. A good selection of dishes that had lots of flavour and were also filling enough to satisfy a carnivore! I'd certainly return.

I have been to a number of Vegetarian restaurants and this is in the top 10. Veggie fine dining, it is. Plus, who can resist the surrounds of Angel Islington with The Hummingbird Bakery across the road and plenty of other great places to visit (antiques market on a Saturday, lots of great coffee shops). Great interior, simple and open... More

Nice starters but heavy and boring main (mushroom gnocchi) and all the ambience of a school canteen. Way overpriced.

There are four really good veggie restaurants that I have eaten at, The Gate being one of them some years ago. I went back there recently but unfortunately slightly disappointed withe the overall experience. I booked the table specifically asking for a nice bright table as it was a special occasion. Despite it being a relatively late weekday lunch time... More

As the vegetarian of our trio, I was delighted to have dinner where I was able to try my friends dishes! Our appetizers, main plate and desserts were a treat to eye as well as palate. Our main meals varied from a Thai dish, an exemplary Tortilla dish, and a mushroom gnocchi. Amazing. This was our first dinner in London... More

As a meat eater I was surprised at how good the food was. It was not trying to be dressed up as a meat alternative. All seemed fresh and tasty. Had the aubergine teriyaki, Thai green curry, polenta chips.

Based on the reviews in top table, I booked this restaurant for a Saturday Lunch with my wife. Both of us being vegetarians, we like to try different veg restaurants. The service was good but the food was just average. The menu looked impressive but I felt a bit let down by the food itself and portion size. The food... More
