Description: The Gate Restaurant in London's Hammersmith is the capital's most...
The Gate Restaurant in London's Hammersmith is the capital's most successful vegetarian restaurant. Founded and operated by brothers Adrian and Michael Daniel, The Gate specialises in their uniquely personal style of cooking, one they characterise as Indo-Iraqi Jewish modulated by French and Italian influences. The brothers do some of their own foraging, particularly for wild mushrooms in season, and otherwise source the freshest local and organic produce for their dishes. With its high ceilings and large windows, the dining room is atmospheric and attractive, always lively day or night and, in summer, the courtyard adds a lovely space ready to be squabbled over by sun worshipping diners. Its rare to find vegetarians so well looked after so its no wonder that The Gate has been a veggie mecca for more than ten years now. Even the wine list features organic, vegetarian and vegan wines, a perfect complement to The Gate's vegetarian cuisine.

Lovely meal

We really liked this restaurant, which had been recommended by my daughter who has visited several times but not in the last few months. Beautiful building, friendly staff and amazing food. Portions small so side orders needed and on the pricey side but great for a special occasion.

Oh, wow. Thought the food was just spectacular. All three of us loved our dishes and wished we could come back and try more things. We were at dinner very late and it was not crowded; we had no trouble with the service and everyone was really nice to us. Someone actually brought us a sample of a vegetable we’d... More

The food here is very tasty, of a very high standard and is artistically presented. It's the sort of place you would go for a special occasion for sure. The two of us ate (starter and main each, a single dessert, two glasses of wine and a fruit juice) and it came to £75. It's not over the top price... More

I was taken to this restaurant as a surprise last night and I can honestly say that I have never had such a wonderful meal. I have dined at some top restaurants but the quality of this food was superb. To start we shared the mezze platter, it was wonderful and really nice to have a taster of each started.... More

Come on Tripadvisor!!!! Can't believe that there STILL isn't a standalone section for The Gate in John St in Islington near the Angel. Especially when it isactually superb! Went there this Saturday Valentine's lunchtime, and everything was outstanding, first class and absolutely brilliant. It offers a lovely welcoming, fresh atmosphere, with stylish Aurelia in charge to ensure it sustains those... More

Visited here 9pm on a Saturday evening - thankfully was able to book a last minute table. The meal was very, very delicious - excellent choice of dishes, so brilliant as a vegetarian to be able to order anything from the menu. My partner as a regular meat/fish eater was equally 'blown away' and did not consider that anything was... More

Inventive and original vegetarian menu. Excellent service we celebrated a birthday there. The staff were very accommodating. Everyone enjoyed the food even the meat eaters! The only down side was the waiting time for the food we had to waited 30-40mins to get the main course.

I had wanted to try the Gate for some time but could never get a table at the last minute. Last Wednesday we booked and dined at the Hammersmith restaurant, but the experience was quite disappointing. The service was not very attentive, had to ask for drinks twice. The tables so close to one another we had to endure the... More
