I've been to the Engineer a few times and particularly enjoy their lovely back yard in the summer. Their Sunday roast is perfectly agreeable and the pub is conveniently located near the primrose bakery (killer cupcakes). Prices are relatively steep however and other than the roast there isn't much to entertain. To complicate things further, they now only serve a... More

We went with friends for New Years Eve and everything exceeded our expectations. We had read some poor reviews after making the reservation and started to get concerned. But we were not disappointed although my wife's steak was not great. Several of us had fish and chips and enjoyed it a lot. The New Years Eve menu had a range... More

The decor is fine, the staff enthusiastic but overall you just don't get value for money .£15.40 for a basic fish and chip lunch, or £24.20 for a standard Rib eye and chips, seems a bit over the top. Our group of seven felt the menu choice was restrictive and some of the offering quite average for a bill of... More

Having gotten a tip from a colleague of mine and read at the website - we really expected a real gastro-pub meal. The pub is really Nice and a Nice feel to it. We had a table on a sunday at 12h:00 and the service was Nice. We had entres, main and desserts. All in all I'd say the Food... More

I took a friend here for a birthday, wanting to go somewhere that might be in some way 'special'. It certainly wasnt special but perhaps would have been nice for a dinner out on a normal occasion. The staff were average, it took a lot of effort to get their attention at points. We arrived at 730pm on a Saturday... More

Rated as a Gastro Pub I don't see how. The pub itself I found quite delightful full of age which suits me fine and being greeted with a good evening what can I get you very pleasant, unfortunately the food was very average and quite overpriced with sausage and mash at £12.00 and Rib eye steak at £22.00 with a side... My partner and myself booked for Saturday evening. Received a phone call about 2 hours before just to confirm we were coming. Very nice we thought. On arrival ordered 2 large Gin and Tonics which were excellent. Confirmed we were booked and could take table when we wanted. Have to say the bar was very noisy but hey ho it's... More

we arrived at 2:30. We left at 4:00, and the starter had not yet arrived, let alone the main course. Oh and the manager did not apologise.. The waiter was polite, but don't waste your time.

Been going here for many years, and live nearby. Garden is great, as are the beers. Food is hit or miss but often hit. The one exception is breakfast. It is always shambolic, so thought I should warn ppl not to make the same mistake I keep making for years!
