Don't go for a special occasion

We've been going to the Engineer for special occasions for over 20 years. I celebrated my birthday there on 2 July and won't go back again. We were a party of 11 in an upstairs room and the staff could not have done less for us, even though they were aware it was a birthday. We had to go up... read more

I often used to come for a pint of urquel and a meal after work now no urquel and the service there were four of them behind the bar and it took them 15 mins to serve me while 8 was waiting I watched one barman chat with his friend another fiddle with some paperwork whilst the third supervised the... I work close to it and go often. Love the burgers and the meet. Good beer selection and really cozy atmosphere. The beer garden is awesome too...

A London rail strike made the journey to the Engineer a little tough, but it was eventually worth it. A nice atmosphere and a great scotch egg! They had a special going on with appetizers and wine and there was a little confusion about what I was allowed to order, but even after all that confusion the customer service didn't... More

Well we came here on the day we got engaged and we are still married so came back and hoped it would be great... We booked a table in the "restaurant" : what we thought was a restaurant: when you book a table it is usually is a restaurant, but after sitting for 20 minutes with nobody coming to see... More

We've been going to the Engineer for years now. The garden is gorgeous and the food used to be very good. A lively, special, bustling and atmospheric destination pub. No more. Today in the warm sunshine we were a party of 10 on our lunch hour and got there early to secure a table in the garden. We were told... More

We have been going to The Engineer for nearly 20 years & whilst it has not been the same since the brewery took over the lease a couple of years ago it has never been as bad as it was when we went last night! The staff are surly & rude with absolutely zero charm. We waited 1 hour &... More

Met up with some friends who live in the area who go there regularly ... Was a bit nervous considering some of the posted reviews. We were seated immediately - place about three quarters full. Our waiter was very friendly and helpful pointing out one item that was not available and took our order. Food arrived in a reasonable time... More

My partner and I went for an early drink/supper here on Monday, 30/6/15. It was a place we have both been to before and enjoyed. The meal on Monday was really poor. I ordered a starter of 'Salt and Pepper Squid' and she had a chicken and bacon salad with a 'Caeser' dressing. The garden was quite busy but the... More

Having enjoyed The Engineer many years ago we went back for a family Sunday lunch. The pub has really, really gone downhill. It smells bad, for starters. The food was very poor. Whitebait was really salty and not very fresh. Sausages were nasty. Fish and chips badly cooked. Avoid, avoid, totally depressing.
