So much for being the last of the old time pubs, the powers that be have decided that City Barge is in need of a refurb, which is underway at the moment. However, refurb seems to mean rip out everything leaving the bare walls and dig out the carpark. The view from the river will be the same but that... More

So many London pubs have turned into "Gastropubs," more a restaurant than a public house. Certainly along the river as well as much of the rest of Chiswick that's the case, The City Barge is one of the last of the old timers. Dating back to the 1400's, scenes from the Beatles film 'Help" were filmed here. A great view... More

This is a PUB it isnt a real restaurant in the classic sense so do not go expecting anything other than British pub food. If you want good beer or bitters, cocktails or wine it is here along with a ton of history. It is over 500 hundred years old (well before Shakespeare). The tide rises so high they have... More

This is a great location to have a drink. We decided to order food. The chef, who seemed to be doubling as the waitress, said that we would have to wait for 45 minutes. We got drinks at the bar and went outside. There were no tables left but you can sit in deck chairs by the river so we... More

What a shame - beautiful location, beautiful day but the service is awful - rude and rough bunch. Didn't have any of the 3 steaks on the menu and not at all apologetic. Toilets were gross too. Could definitely do with a change of management.

Whilst out walking we 3 decided that the City Barge would be a good Riverfront hostelry to have a light lunch. 2 had the Broad Bean Risotto and 1 the Duck and hoisin wrap with salad. Comprehensive menu- plenty of choice. Summer Pudding/Salted Caramel and Tarte Tatin for desert and Greene King beers to enjoy. Brilliant setting and film location... More

Had one of those lucky fridays where the sun shone and sitting riverside having a chilled glass of rose watching the river go by saw off a couple of hours. I know that this place can get packed but our wine was chilled, the fish finger sandwich my mate had made me wish I had chosen it for lunch because... More

We used to eat here quite often, but have not been for a while now. We had a family dinner for eight and decided to go back to the City Barge. Everyone was very impressed! The Barge has a great atmosphere with seating inside and out. A few tables were turned around and seating eight was no problem. As it... More

The City Barge dates back to the 1400's. It has a great location on the Thames in Chiswick, and the really good atmosphere of a local pub. The food is good, and reasonably priced. There is good beer on tap. The staff is friendly and helpful. Inside or outside, it's a great place to sit and watch the world go... More
