Authentic Egyptian experience

I have been eating here regularly since 1982. The high quality of its food and service has never wavered. Everything is excellent but you must not miss: tabouleh, mutabel, & chicken kebab.

I dined here with my girlfriend on a Friday evening. We arrived quite late, around 9.30pm, and were told that we had to sit in the front part of the restaurant, that resembles a takeaway, rather than the back part, even though it looked as if there were seats available. My partner went for the moussaka which she seemed to... More

Approached this place with some reluctance as the exterior looks like a run of the mill kebab house. However were drawn in by the very pleasant young woman who came out and gave us a menu. On venturing inside discovered small, authentic family run basic restaurant serving freshly cooked, delicious Egyptian food - as they have done since 1979. I... More

I have been there a few times, some plates are exceptionally nice. It could be much better with some attention, small plats as a main course and this does not help. The service is family run and could improve with deeper thoughts. Attention by the owners would keep people coming back.

A just returned from another visit to the Ali Baba. This is a small family run restaurant tucked away off Gloucester Place, near Baker Street. The restaurant offers authentic Egyptian and middle eastern cuisine at a reasonable price. Mostly when we have gone there over half the customers have been from the middle east so a good indication that the... More

I have been to Ali Baba many times and always have found the family to be quiet but friendly in service. Food always comes quickly and is always nice ! I have not been disappointed once. The humus, falafels, sausage, etc are standing orders for me. Decor is basic; takeaway counter in the front and walk through to the back... More

Very sample family pub. Egyptian don't sell any kind of alcohol, but there is no problem to buy it from nearest shop. Food is arabian - kebaps, fresh salads, rice. Cheap prices. Average service. Not good ventilation.

This establishment has a great relaxed and family run feeling to it. The restuarant is at the back of the building and the service that I received was of a good standard. The food was delicious and I wouldn’t hesitate in recommending this place to anybody that fancied trying some good Arabic food at an affordable price.

No-frills middle eastern cooking. Very generous portions at a great price, although not memorable quality. Note there is no alcohol available - adding to the authenticity

Neighborhood Profile
Marylebone
Marylebone offers what so many London neighborhoods cannot: a village feel coupled with urban convenience. Much of its success rests in its location. Wedged between the northeastern corner of Hyde Park and the southern end of Regent's Park and with a number of Tube stations within easy reach, Marylebone is as pedestrian friendly as Central London gets. The bustling shopping mecca of Oxford Street separates it from Soho and Mayfair, exclusive Regent Street marks its border with Fitzrovia, and cosmopolitan Edgware Road serves as its western edge. Within this enviably situated quarter are an array of outstanding restaurants (from Michelin darlings to down and dirty cheeseburgers), an impressive assortment of independently owned shops, and some of the city's quietest and most pleasant nooks, crannies and cobbled lanes.
