World's No. 1 Kosher Restaurant

Having dined at kosher restaurants all over London, New York, Jerusalem, Eilat and Tel Aviv (admittedly not Paris), 1701 is undoubtedly the best. Very few kosher restaurants achieve Michelin standard and this is one of them. The menu is well designed, the venue is classic and the service is... read more

Started with the pastilla, simply delicious. moved on to the sofrito. Both lamb dishes - I love lamb!. They were better than I have ever tasted lamb to date (I'm nearly 41). Cooked to perfection. Very tasteful service and ambiance. If you seek classy jewish cuisine, then look no further. Worthy of its historic location, the oldest synagogue in the... More

Nice to have a kosher experience in town, which isn't your typical Israeli shwarma style restaurant. Be warned - this isn't cheap, but is very very good. Be warned again that the portions are not massive, but are very very good. The menu has a great verity and gives interesting explanations of the heritage of the food on offer, would... More

This restaurant appeared at the location of the old Bevis Marks Restaurant next to the Bevis Marks Synagogue. The menu is unique and delicious featuring Jewish food from around the world. The quantities are not large, the food is tasty and memorable.

My wife and I ate here for her birthday. The staff were attentive and pleasant. The food was both traditional and contemporary. The flavours were clever. I've read the amount served leaves you wanting more but my wife and I felt just the right kinda full. It's certainly more about the quality than the quantity. Some of the plates are... More

Our meal at 1701 was delicious and not of the typical Kosher dining that's typically available. The babaganoush with pomegranate seeds was particularly tasty! The restaurant is a bit expensive, but perfect for a business meeting or to celebrate a special occasion. Very fun that it's in the Marks Bevis synagogue!

I have been to 1701 a number of times, but wanted to wait until I had tasted a significant number of their dishes before writing this review. Both for business and pleasure I have been incredibly impressed with the restaurant, not only its food, which is excellent, but also the staff's knowledge of every dish when asked, something that cannot... I went with 2 friends and spent over £120 for 2 starters and 3 main courses -- and water. My main course was 3 tiny pieces of staffed vegetables. I cannot say how furious I was, this place takes Michelin stars as a mean for drastically overcharging their food -- which is quite ordinary on the other hand. Take it from... More

This is a great restaurant for kosher businessmen. It is one of the only restaurants in the world that is kosher and has a Michelin star. It is not cheap, but the food and the service certainly justified the price.

Staying in City of London

Neighborhood Profile
City of London
From its ancient past as a Roman trading outpost to its 21st century status as the wealthiest square mile in the world, the financial district known simply as “The City” is one of London's most historic and fascinating neighborhoods. Here high rise office towers such as Norman Foster’s Gherkin mingle with Roman ruins and architectural marvels from virtually every era in between, including Christopher Wren's glorious St.Paul's Cathedral, and John Soane's dauntingly classicist Bank of England. This neighborhood is also home to some of the finest restaurants and plushest hotels in Europe, in addition to an assortment of of watering holes, upscale shops, and Tube stations. During the week, the City is abuzz with white collar workers going about their business; the weekend sees this area turn into a quiet haven for sightseers.
