For lunch, this place is great. Upstairs dining, with a superb lunch menu. Table service (which is so rare in a real pub). A must try if local.

Both the downstairs and especially the upstairs dining room are smallish, but of good quality and a nice snug feel. Good selection of hand pulled ales on tap. In good weather, the out of the way lane the pub is on forms a nice courtyard for outdoors time. Good service. Typical Nicholson chain quality, which is to say pretty good.... More

Booked for a meal in their upstairs dining room. A nice and varied menu that is above normal pub fare yet very reasonably priced. 7.30pm on a Friday appears to be "drink after work time" so the entire small alleyway that leads to the pub itself was jammed with workers enjoying a drink. The upstairs dining area provides a great... More

Stop number five - The Ship, refreshing to walk into a good traditional pub in London. It wasn't extremely busy but you could see it has a good bunch of regulars. Very welcoming Staff - good beer and pleasant surroundings, you can't ask for more, would certainly return.

Would highly recommend a visit to this typical London pub. Food is great served by friendly efficient staff. Steak pie was fantastic washed down with a really good pint of Nicholsons beer. Well worth a visit.

I visit the Ship regularly and am always impressed by the variety of beers on offer both real ales and lagers. The food is good and reasonably priced. - bar food downstairs and a restaurant upstairs. The pub itself can get very packed in the evenings but on milder days you can stand outside.

Nothing flash, nothing fancy, just a good traditional pub with good staff, good beers with constantly changing guest beers, and good food. Nice upstairs seating area, can be a bit chilly at times.

Nice little pub, which serves great pub food, (I had chicken burger and chips). However, it was so busy and the pub is really small, it was hard to find anywhere to sit and eat. Also I asked for no cheese, yet the chef added cheese, so they had to re-cook mine. It was delivered with no cutlery, but to... More

Some friends and I met up for a regular reunion at this traditional pub in the City, where we had booked space upstairs (a cosy place). It is down an alleyway and might be missed if you don't know where it is. The food offering has improved here in recent years. We had the basket of fish (cod, scampi, calamari... More

The waitress was very nice and helpful, the place was lovely, when we ordered our food she came back a couple of times to say they had not got what some of us wanted ( there was five of us). We waited a while for the food to arrive, on arrival what looked like frozen carrots and beans and the... More

Staying in City of London

Neighborhood Profile
City of London
From its ancient past as a Roman trading outpost to its 21st century status as the wealthiest square mile in the world, the financial district known simply as “The City” is one of London's most historic and fascinating neighborhoods. Here high rise office towers such as Norman Foster’s Gherkin mingle with Roman ruins and architectural marvels from virtually every era in between, including Christopher Wren's glorious St.Paul's Cathedral, and John Soane's dauntingly classicist Bank of England. This neighborhood is also home to some of the finest restaurants and plushest hotels in Europe, in addition to an assortment of watering holes, upscale shops, and Tube stations. During the week, the City is abuzz with white collar workers going about their business; the weekend sees this area turn into a quiet haven for sightseers.
