Old Fashion Fish n' Chips

Looking for a real pub, with the standard fare like good old fashioned fish and chips with mushed peas. Well you found it. Of course the usual assortment of beers and bitters and wine and other adult beverages. Wait staff were nice, even to this yankee visiting from the other side of the pond... read more

The day before the London Marathon sees thousands of runners in search of carbs, typically pasta. As we were staying nearby, we were pleased to see linguine on the menu outside this backstreet pub close to the Tower and other east City attractions. The menus on the bar had the same list of choices as the one outside. When I... More

A lively bar which picks up lots of customers from the plethora of hotels close by. Quick and friendly service - reasonable prices. Extremely popular and busy.

I followed the bar manager recommendations for food and I did right! i had the bacon steak and all about it was great! Tasty, fatty, yummy and a nice sauce on top. cute beer garden and lovely ales, specially the new world... More

Good pub, deceptively large once inside, staff were pleasant and not a bad selection of Ale on tap. Food was ok pub food. As should be expected, it gets very busy with office workers on a Friday!!

We were shamefully fooled by the interesting exterior and historic feel to the interior of this restaurant. We should have known that any place with a sign out front that reads "1/2 price Monday" (or something like that) is not going to provide epicurean delights. My food tasted like something a cafeteria lunch lady would provide. My co-worker ordered shrimp... More

I visited this pub with my parents as our hotel was near by - from the outside the pub looks like a typical old London pub, which I love and the inside didn't disappoint. A Friday night there had a great atmosphere with music, a variety of people and friendly bar staff, not to mention the 2 4 1 cocktails!... More

Not the old historic pub you hope it to be. Somewhat Modern with some character aspects to its look. Quite a few places to sit away from the bar and very comfortable to drink and eat. Can get busy and due to size of bar can take a while to get served at times. Small outside area at back but... More

This pub is located a stone's throw from the Insurance District in the City and therefore attracts many of the local professionals. With Tower Hill a few minutes walk away, this pub is a little treasure for native Londoners and tourists alike. Generally, the place is very busy on Thursday and Friday evenings, filled with after work drinkers, and as... More

Staying in City of London

Neighborhood Profile
City of London
From its ancient past as a Roman trading outpost to its 21st century status as the wealthiest square mile in the world, the financial district known simply as “The City” is one of London's most historic and fascinating neighborhoods. Here high rise office towers such as Norman Foster’s Gherkin mingle with Roman ruins and architectural marvels from virtually every era in between, including Christopher Wren's glorious St.Paul's Cathedral, and John Soane's dauntingly classicist Bank of England. This neighborhood is also home to some of the finest restaurants and plushest hotels in Europe, in addition to an assortment of of watering holes, upscale shops, and Tube stations. During the week, the City is abuzz with white collar workers going about their business; the weekend sees this area turn into a quiet haven for sightseers.
