We went for dinner with colleagues and yes, the idea to disguise a restaurant as a peep show is fun. Unfortunately that's about the best part of our experience. The menu is fairly small (as are the portions) and everything is quite pricey (our bill was £300 for 5 people - starters, mains & wine). Our starters (tacos) were mostly... More

Came in after the lunch rush and the chef was speaking to his troops to line them up on the specials and dishes being introduced possibly in the dinner service. Staff appeared uninterested and very young, a few seemed to care about the hours the chef had put into the invention of these dishes. The service from our waiter was... More

I went to La Bodega Negra because I'd heard it mentioned about. The menu outside looked pleasing until I realised the crab sandwich for £12 was just that - a sandwich and nothing else! So after an exceptionally bland margarita I opted for the £10 Roasted corn salad. How surprised was I when the salad was not a salad at... More

The food in Bodega Negra is delicious, exciting and inventive. However, no one took our order for 45 minutes (a bottle of red wine took an extra 30 minutes) and that meant we over ran our time slot. We were told we had to leave - and this was before our main course had arrived - but having pointed out... More

Came here on a Friday night with my girls, I actually have to say I don't think the prices were over the top - v normal for a good restaurant around there! Ceviche was amazing and the mains are delicious!!! The only thing is, if you suffer from claustrophobia don't go! It's dark (obviously, it's underground, but the lights are... More

The upshot - unbelievably overpriced - tiny tiny tiny portions - see photo - that's the entirety of the octopus and chorizo skewers! + A lovely waitress who could not be more helpful called Nassira. - The worst attitude from a manager that i have ever had - who told us we should've walked out when we saw the portions... I get that this restaurant wants to add a little something different to the average outside-your-house eating experience but the price does not accurately reflect the service or quality of food. You really are just paying for the locale and 'prestige' of being allowed entrance. Glad to say I have been - will not return.

We were a little cautious given some of the reviews here, and the seemingly strict booking policy, but we went ahead and booked a table for a friends birthday. I must admit we are so glad we did. Nestled through an unassuming door in Compton street you descend into the gloomy cavernous cellars. The welcome was polite and professional. Decent... More
