Friendly staff and atmosphere, so so food

It's nice to have an independent decent pub in the neighbourhood and the drinks and staff are wonderful. Yesterday we went for food and it was just ok. Nothing to go mad for but the portion sizes were good and the trimmings were tasty. I don't usually go out for a Sunday roast (this was a group lunch) because the meat tends to be dry and a bit tasteless... Unfortunately this didn't to much to prove otherwise...

I stopped in after a longish ride on a very crowded pre-Christmas no.106 bus. Imagine my delight: full but not crowded, bubbly but not blasting, an air of real, un crazed merriment, commodious, not cavernous. It was even possible to have a conversation. It might have been easier if I had come with someone, but undaunted I spoke with the... More

Arriving at the Brownswood on a Saturday evening and the place is thronged, but with a good-natured bustle of families, groups of friends and climbers from the Castle opposite. A generous range of guest ciders and ales are served by attentive staff. You might be waiting some time for a table at more popular times, but otherwise thoroughly recommended.

Lazy service. The staff don't know what's available in the kitchen and won't tell you for an hour. The portions are super small and really expensive. Not worth it at all.

I live round the corner from the Brownswood. It has a great selection of beers, the staff are friendly, decent crowd of people and the beer garden is fun in the summer but the food is really bad. The menu is uninteresting and poorly executed. It is a shame, as otherwise it is a really decent pub.

So, i was part of a group of six guys who turned up around lunch-time on Saturday 2nd August. We were having some lunch prior to the Emirates Cup Games. Initially i didn't think much of it. Seemed like a reduced menu and the pub was a little tatty. This didn't put me off as i was hungry! We found... More

Great to read positive reviews of the Brownswood. A mob of six Aussies and an Irishman lived next door for six months in 1972 and it was our regular every bloody night (except Sundays for live music at the Arsenal Tavern). I went back on a visit in the 80s and it was a bit depressing despite all my happy... More

I have eaten here many times when I am in North London. The food is usually enjoyable and the service is good. I am very fond of this place and serves as a good pub with food. It can, however, become very busy and inevitably the service suffers.
