I was so pleased to revisit the River Cafe for a rather large birthday! The success here is just simple food cooked to perfection using the very best ingredients...it's expensive but worth it..we had a table outside and the sun shone...just perfect!

Spending the weekend in London with friends who had never been, we decided to take them to the River Cafe to celebrate my husband's birthday. We had heard great things about it, but had never been before. We weren't disappointed! The place was heaving when we arrived, but we were seated immediately and asked about drinks within seconds. Ordered a... More

The restaurant were helpful in rescheduling, late in the day, a 7pm sitting to 9pm. The place was buzzing in both respects of having a vibrant atmosphere and being rather noisy. As another reviewer has said, they make the most of the space available. It is on the expensive side (I am comparing with Vienna) but my pasta first course... More

This is my second visit to the River Cafe, and both times (once for dinner, the other for Sunday lunch) it has been a most delightful experience. The food is fabulous, just like they promise. The service is mature and very pleasant. The venue is a really nice experience. The only difficulty is getting a reservation. This is a modern,... More

I really really wanted to love River Cafe, as I had been recommended by several clients with discerning taste. Sadly I really didn't get it. Having booked for dinner, we arrived harassed, and a little late, as we had trouble finding it's location, even with a sat nav, so the evening didn't start well. My first impression was that it... The first thing we noticed is that the staff are elegant and thin and quite a few customers are well padded (a generalisation, I admit). When you look at the menu you see that your wallet has to be well padded too. Starters £10 and mains £20? Not at the River Cafe. While you can economise with a pasta dish,... More

In the evenings the River Café has a rigid policy of two seatings, seven or nine pm. For a celebration dinner, we elected for the nine o’clock option. Despite arriving on the dot of nine, we weren’t seated for twenty minutes, and it was maybe another twenty minutes before our starters were on the table. In the meantime the restaurant... More

Went to River Cafe with high expectations and they delivered without doubt. Liked the setting (very relaxed) and the menu. That said, I did find the prices quite steep.

Having cooked from their ubiquitous books many times and planned for so long to go, I set out for lunch trepidatiously! Would this much loved institution live up to my expectations! A warm welcome (service was terrific throughout) and two perfect bellini's eased any concerns. A beautiful sunny day allowed us to take a terrace table in the sunshine, which... More

We have been to the River Cafe for a number of special occasions over the last 10+ years, and each time worry that our next experience won't live up to the excellence of our previous visits. As always, we needn't have worried, our recent lunch was fantastic, with great food, service in a very relaxed atmosphere (we booked the second... More
