Description: The Brigade Bar and Restaurant is setting the London restaurant scene on...
The Brigade Bar and Restaurant is setting the London restaurant scene on fire. Located in the old fire station, built following 1861’s famous Tooley Street Fire and leading to the creation of the first London fire brigades, The Brigade Bar and Restaurant is concerned not just with eating but with bringing people together to build a community enjoying new experiences together. While The Brigade, along with the Beyond Food Foundation, offers catering apprenticeships to the vulnerable, cookery courses, cookery schools for the keen and private dining for the VIP-minded, the centre of this fantastic venue is definitely the bar and restaurant. A sensory experience, guests are met with the aromas of tempting fresh cooking on arrival, the gentle buzz of conversation and attractive, modern surroundings creating a relaxed feel. Combining sophistication and rusticity, The Brigade’s menu focuses on good produce and traditional British cookery, a handful of classics and sharers adding to the mix. Drinks meanwhile are as well thought out as food, with clever cocktails, niche wines and micro-brewery beers making up an intriguing list.

Good London Eatery

Went here with a friend last week who had a two for one deal. Excellent, attentive service. Cool ambience. A reasonable walk from London Bridge but this area is up and coming and has some good places to eat around; this is one of them. Trendy interior. We both had prosecco as an apperitif... read more

We came here to celebrate our friend's wedding. The venue was ours from 4pm on Saturday to midnight. I can't fault it. The food was delicious and the venue brilliantly located close to the river. What stood out most were the staff - from Reuben who I think was the manager through to all of the kitchen and waiting staff.... More

Initially everything was great. My boyfriend and I were in London for a break and using a deal in conjunction with a trip up The Shard later that night, we reserved a table online for 6.30pm. We turned up a wee bit early, which was no problem. Got the menus and baulked a bit at the prices, AND the fact... More

This is a good restaurant, with a couple of small things that, if sorted out, would make it great. We went there on a Friday evening. Outside there was the usual Friday happy hour in the adjoining bar with lots of whooping and hollering. The restaurant itself was fairly quiet and we were able to get a good window table... More

We decided to come here to try out a taste card that we had been given - this place advertised '50% off the food bill'. The place itself is well presented and the staff friendly and welcoming. Food was very tasty but fortunately the staffs' attention to detail really let it down. We ordered some bread and olives whilst we... More

We booked a private dinning area for 15 of us. We had to pre-order to avoid waiting which we did. They had little name tags with our choices written in the back which was a very nice touch! I wouldn't have remembered what I had ordered! The service was OK - we had to wait for some dishes - especially... More

Had a very nice dinner here with some colleagues. We ordered in advance so that we didn't have to wait too long. Food very good, service sometimes a bit mixed up, but we had a good night. We would have drunk another bottle of wine, but they closed before we could!

Our second visit to Brigade and it was just as good. Relaxed, fun atmosphere with great service, tasty food and interesting quirky building, decor and location. 2 mains, sides, bottle of Gavi, 1 dessert, coffees, inc service £93. Worth every penny. Food highlights were Edward chips and Steeped cherries. I know they were only chips but they were great and... More

Staying in Southwark

Neighborhood Profile
Southwark
Even before the arrival of the instantly iconic Shard, the riverside scene in Southwark had moved well beyond any up-and-coming phase of development. For quite some time, locals and out-of-towners alike have loved browsing the boutiques of Bermondsey High Street, foraging through the bounteous stalls at centuries old foodie haven Borough Market, and flocking to the banks of the Thames to enjoy some of Britain's biggest attractions such as Tate Modern and Shakespeare's Globe. Despite Southwark's many popular draws, instant calm can be achieved easily by turning down almost any side street. For more urban buzz, a quick stroll across famed bridges like the pedestrianized Millennium Bridge or the ever photogenic Tower Bridge yields access to the very core of Central London. And with London Bridge Station as this neighborhood's main transportation hub, getting across town (or to anywhere in England for that matter) is a relative breeze.
