Description: The Brigade Bar and Restaurant is setting the London restaurant scene on...
The Brigade Bar and Restaurant is setting the London restaurant scene on fire. Located in the old fire station, built following 1861’s famous Tooley Street Fire and leading to the creation of the first London fire brigades, The Brigade Bar and Restaurant is concerned not just with eating but with bringing people together to build a community enjoying new experiences together. While The Brigade, along with the Beyond Food Foundation, offers catering apprenticeships to the vulnerable, cookery courses, cookery schools for the keen and private dining for the VIP-minded, the centre of this fantastic venue is definitely the bar and restaurant. A sensory experience, guests are met with the aromas of tempting fresh cooking on arrival, the gentle buzz of conversation and attractive, modern surroundings creating a relaxed feel. Combining sophistication and rusticity, The Brigade’s menu focuses on good produce and traditional British cookery, a handful of classics and sharers adding to the mix. Drinks meanwhile are as well thought out as food, with clever cocktails, niche wines and micro-brewery beers making up an intriguing list.

Excellent meal

Love this place as they do so much for the disadvantaged. Food is superb, although I think the prices could be lowered a touch. Friendly staff and a great atmosphere

We were a party of 6 for dinner on Saturday 16th May. We arrived early and it was very quite, however within 30 mins it was getting very busy. The food was excellent, we all enjoyed what we ordered. However what did stand out was the real passion for service and cooking. Nothing was too much trouble to ensure we... More

Great for a business lunch or nice evening meal. The service is prompt and friendly; the food is served quickly; and is hot and fresh. Good servings and plenty of choices. A socially aware organisation to boot with a programme to help the homeless get on their feet. Highly recommended.

Five of us arrived at 1pm on a Wednesday -- the place was very busy, but we were immediately shown to a table. Popular with local office workers, most of the tables were cleared by 2.15pm. The food was good, ambience pleasant and staff friendly. Even though they were very busy, service was just right. Prices as you would expect... More

This is a fantastic little place that serves great food! Staff, atmosphere and service were great! Presentation was excellent and all food was well executed and large portion sizes. We went in as a large group of people all wanting something different and they got food out quick and hot. I especially like peoples stories on the upstairs and toilet... More

The food was exquisite! The staff were very friendly. The décor, tableware, music and general atmosphere were sophisticated but relaxed. All in all a thoroughly enjoyable experience!

We were a party of 25 on a Saturday night and the food and service was excellent. Unusual dishes as well as traditional food were served by friendly, competent staff. The food was well presented and enjoyed by everyone in the party so there's not a lot more to say really!!

Have been here before for both breakfast and dinner in the past and have had enjoyable meals - but this time was disappointing. Booked a private room for a celebratory business meal with a set menu (choice of 5 starters, 5 main, 5 desert). Problem was that 2 of the main courses were not available - both of which were... I very handy spot near More London and Tower Bridge but also short walk from London Bridge Station. Very modern european feel but with some good tasty british classics freshly presented on the menu. Have seen other reviews about poor service but either they have had an influence or they were unlucky! We had a good business lunch with very... More

Staying in Southwark

Neighborhood Profile
Southwark
Even before the arrival of the instantly iconic Shard, the riverside scene in Southwark had moved well beyond any up-and-coming phase of development. For quite some time, locals and out-of-towners alike have loved browsing the boutiques of Bermondsey High Street, foraging through the bounteous stalls at centuries old foodie haven Borough Market, and flocking to the banks of the Thames to enjoy some of Britain's biggest attractions such as Tate Modern and Shakespeare's Globe. Despite Southwark's many popular draws, instant calm can be achieved easily by turning down almost any side street. For more urban buzz, a quick stroll across famed bridges like the pedestrianized Millennium Bridge or the ever photogenic Tower Bridge yields access to the very core of Central London. And with London Bridge Station as this neighborhood's main transportation hub, getting across town (or to anywhere in England for that matter) is a relative breeze.
