Tiny restaurant beautiful food

Went to this very small restaurant with colleagues from work, on first impression I did not think this would be for me as the room is so small and very busy. Wow the food just made up for lack of space, we stood at a side bar and had our tapas delivered and it just seemed to keep coming. A... read more

The food here is great. I've eaten here twice and both times I've really enjoyed it. The place is very small and most of the time there isn't only standing room but this adds to the experience of eating tapas. The place is always busy but the food is always quick to arrive and you're never rushed to leave.

After trying a number of different tapas places in the city, I was taken here for a surprise meal on Friday and I can safely say this is my new favourite place for tapas! You can't book a table, so it's probably worth getting here early (before 6pm) if you want to improve your chances of being seated. We arrived... More

Great tapas... Really, really great! Often standing room only and the place gets very warm. However, I think this adds to the authenticity. It makes me feel like I've been transported to Spain. But most of all, the food is delicious!

Ate here on a Saturday night with my husband. We arrived at about 815 and the place was already really busy. We were told it'd be about a 10 minute wait and we just queued inside. We waited about 10 minutes and were then shown to our area. Unfortunately we didn't have seats, and after a day of walking I... More

We'd tried, and failed, to get a table in any of the Shard restaurants so repaired to a pub down the road (the really good Bunch of Grapes). Whilst there, we took to Trip Advisor to discover what was nearby. We discovered Jose - and what a discovery! We arrived after 8pm and this tiny restaurant was already full. I... More

I've been to Spain a few times, yet nothing even comes close to the quality served here. Popped in for a quick lunch while on a business trip and was totally blown away. Every dish is top notch. Service impeccable and atmosphere friendly. Male time for it if you're in the area.

My son, his girlfriend and I went to this restaurant for dinner. The tapas were great and we especially loved the chorizo. I would have to say it was the best chorizo I have ever had. The Spanish centric wine selection was also very good although limited. We had an excellent 2008 garnacha-based crianza that went really well with our... More

José is a great little gem to have up your sleeve for an impromptu drink and bite to eat. It's small and a tapas bar so at its best it's crowded, noisy and rambunctious. You have to channel your inner Spaniard and go with the flow! I've been here several times and more often than not the food is outstanding.... More

Jose is an excellent tapas bar in Bermondsey Street, SE1. The quality of food is consistently good. For me the best tapas in London. Small but good Spanish wine selection. It is a very small place but it is worth it to wait having a glass of wine. From the traditional tapas, I love the Patatas bravas, Croquetas, Jamon Ibérico,... More

Staying in Southwark

Neighborhood Profile
Southwark
Even before the arrival of the instantly iconic Shard, the riverside scene in Southwark had moved well beyond any up-and-coming phase of development. For quite some time, locals and out-of-towners alike have loved browsing the boutiques of Bermondsey High Street, foraging through the bounteous stalls at centuries old foodie haven Borough Market, and flocking to the banks of the Thames to enjoy some of Britain's biggest attractions such as Tate Modern and Shakespeare's Globe. Despite Southwark's many popular draws, instant calm can be achieved easily by turning down almost any side street. For more urban buzz, a quick stroll across famed bridges like the pedestrianized Millennium Bridge or the ever photogenic Tower Bridge yields access to the very core of Central London. And with London Bridge Station as this neighborhood's main transportation hub, getting across town (or to anywhere in England for that matter) is a relative breeze.
