Just shared a few plates with the boss in this lovely informal setting. Everything was delicious and perfectly cooked and seasoned. Great food, service with a brilliant vibrant and informal atmosphere. It's small venue and can get very crowded, but that all adds to the atmosphere. It's a little piece of Spain in South London.I will have to go again soon

My husband and I visited here on a Monday lunchtime and we had a wonderful experience. The food was superb - we love tapas and are often in Spain and the food served at Jose was as good if not better than many any tapas we have eaten. The service was excellent and the wine selection perfect. We certainly can't... More

Every time I walk past Jose it always seems busy, so we went Saturday night for some wine and tapas. As soon as we walked in, the staff approached us, was extremely friendly and the atmosphere was great. We got some wine recommendations and were able to try them before ordering. We chose just two tapas and both were delicious... More

First of all the wine Gran Recosind Crianza, Cellers Santa Marí is amazing, i'll come back just for that. We had about 8 tapas between 3 people, one dessert and it was wonderful. My favourite was the meatballs, it was seasoned perfectly. Other standouts were the Portobello mushroom croquets, lovely fried peppers and the fried hake which had a light... More

I've never had disappointing food here. And as it's always packed, I assume others feel the same way too. Staff are all totally charming and it's not unusual to see Jose Pizarro relaxing with a drink and chatting to the customers. I don't think there is a better tapa's bar in London.

Very popular and very crowded at lunchtime. Best Spanish omelette, other than my Spanish mother's one, both here and in bars in Spain. The croquetas were lacking in seasoning, but were freshly fried and crispy on the outside. The fried salt cod balls were rather dry and could have done with a little garlic mayonnaise on the side. The fried... More

Jose is an enjoyable place to eat. The dining room is small and lively and there is a great atmosphere. The food is out of this world: simple tapas prepared beautifully from the finest ingredients. Staff are friendly and relaxed. Highly recommended.

Six of us went here for tapas last month. It is a small establishment and you will be elbow-to-elbow with other patrons who have come for the amazing food. It is literally standing room only in some instances. Everything we tried was A Maz Ing, including the salted caramel chocolate thingy shown in the foto. Great place to pop in... More

My husband and I try to make it to this small, hole in the wall tapas place each and every time we are in London. The staff is welcoming and so helpful. The food is simply amazing- worth the trip to Bermondsy for sure.

Staying in Southwark

Neighborhood Profile
Southwark
Even before the arrival of the instantly iconic Shard, the riverside scene in Southwark had moved well beyond any up-and-coming phase of development. For quite some time, locals and out-of-towners alike have loved browsing the boutiques of Bermondsey High Street, foraging through the bounteous stalls at centuries old foodie haven Borough Market, and flocking to the banks of the Thames to enjoy some of Britain's biggest attractions such as Tate Modern and Shakespeare's Globe. Despite Southwark's many popular draws, instant calm can be achieved easily by turning down almost any side street. For more urban buzz, a quick stroll across famed bridges like the pedestrianized Millennium Bridge or the ever photogenic Tower Bridge yields access to the very core of Central London. And with London Bridge Station as this neighborhood's main transportation hub, getting across town (or to anywhere in England for that matter) is a relative breeze.
