Excellent food, convenient location

We were in the area to go on a 'Jack the Ripper' tour in the early evening, but wanted a change from Brick Lane with its guys standing outside restaurants trying to get you in for all you can eat buffets or 'free wine' with your meal. This fitted the bill perfectly. The food was delicious, the... read more

My husband and I happened to notice this place on the way back to our hotel from a Jack the Ripper tour. We had eaten earlier on the trip at Veeraswamy, which was great but this is just as good and a much better value. The biryani was delicious/portions were good size, servers were attentive, the chutney delicious and plentiful,... More

Been twice now and I can't believe we've never been before, being local. It will be our go-to curry house now. Very reasonable, very good food. Staff are proud of their heritage as waiters for a restaurant that's been open for decades. Had chicken madras on one occasion, which I think was the best I've ever had. The poppadums and... More

Visited Friday night. Will definitely go again. Food was really good and service was fast and friendly. Very good value for money. No music in there but it was busy so lots of chatting etc so wasn't quiet.

Good service and excellent value, probably the oldest curry house near the City of London. Used to be able to walk in any day but recommend booking these days,

18 old office pals and i went for our annual Christmas lunch. Never to be disappointed; fantastic value, great food and atmosphere. Not for those who want posh dining just for those who love authentic Indian curry. For some this was our 46th annual visit, coinciding with the Halal's 75th anniversary year. The owner was still around distributing anniversary gifts... More

This dish is bordering on sublime, no not bordering, it IS sublime. You will never taste a more authentic dish in your curry eating life. The tarka dall is up there too with chili and roasted garlic topping off the dish. Unbeatable at any price and this is cheap!
