OK for Fish & Chips

Went after seeing it written up by a tour book. it's fine if you are near Chelsea. otherwise it's a long drive for a mediocre dinner. We had fish and chips, but it was a bit greasy. Service is also slow.

Went there for dinner with a friend yesterday as we fancied fish and chips, serves was average, the fish was greasy and the chips was ok overall not as good as Geales Notting Hill Gate. In my opinion needs to just copy the original restaurant in Notting Hill Gate then maybe I'll go back.

We read about this place, on a sidestreet in Nottinghill and it was interesting to look at. A guy on the street told us how to get there and also advised us to try another place he liked--why didn't we listen? The food was average, the service was awful. Granted they were busy downstairs where we were seated. Usually I... More

Everyone enjoyed their starters - salmon belini, whitebait and mussels. Main meals were a mixed bag. Scampi was absolutely lovely but very overpriced and didn't come with chips?? Fish pie was rather bland and at £16 or there abouts, it was a disappointment to find there were no tiger prawns what so ever even thought it was stated on the... More

The service was really terrible. Following previous comments about the slow service I phoned the restaurant in advance to seek assurances the same thing wouldn't happen to us. Sadly it did. After being shown to our table we waited over 10 minutes before eventually asking if a waiter could serve us some drinks. The staff seem to ignore the customers.... More

Last minute decision during Chelsea Flower Show as could not get in anywhere else...should have stayed at home. Three tables left before main course due to slow service. So we did get served but mediocre food, actually worse than mediocre, totally amateurish. Based upon this evening many, many locals will not return.

Geales opened in Chelsea in 1939 as a fish and chip shop. It is now a neighborhood restaurant. It is now a linen tablecloth restaurant where the staff get to know you and remember your favorite table. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable about fish and wine. We have visited as a couple and solo/ dinner and lunch and always... More

I went to Geales for the first time last week and had the most delicious fish and chips! The batter was light and crisp with succulent plump cod inside - fantastic. The chips were cooked to perfection and I loved the mushy peas. Prompt service and the waitress went out of her way to make sure we had everything. A... More

Shockingly bad! Greasy batter, unfresh fish and mangled fishy oysters. Need I go on! Wine was forgotten and repeatedly asked for. I still cannot believe that fish and chips can end in such disappointment!

Staying in Chelsea

Neighborhood Profile
Chelsea
Wealth courses through The King's Road, Chelsea's upmarket artery of West London life packed with shops, eateries and glitzy nightspots. For people-watching at its best and luxury retail therapy that's largely unrivalled, this area cannot be missed. But if this showy street starts to overwhelm or a moment of price tag shock sends you reeling, a quick detour down pretty much any of many King's Road veins will reveal a quieter side of Chelsea. Here the stately Royal Hospital hosts its world-famous flower show, and the Thames rolls along at a lazy pace, with leafy Battersea Park and its Peace Pagoda beckoning from across the river.
