A most excellent way to survey the Chef's skills!

We were lazily wandering around the southeast neighborhoods along the Thames one late Saturday morning seeking a sip 'n snack venue. Althought the riverfront was inviting, the weather - as often is the case in London - was less so. We veered off the eiver path down Bermondsey Street, which is... read more

This was a surprise visit organised for my 60th birthday and what a fabulous surprise it was! The food was just amazing, In fact the last time I had an Italian meal that good was when I was in Sicily! The atmosphere was perfect, easy, relaxed and the staff attentive but not intrusive. The lovely lady who greeted us at... More

Tucked amongst Bermondsey's quirky streets is a jewel of a place for fresh, seasonal, perfectly balanced food. I have eaten at Zucca four times and on every occasion have had an amazing experience. The waiters are attentive in a quiet and helpful way, the lighting is soft with a lovely ambience. The lack of background music means you're surrounded by... More

This is a solid joint but way overpriced. The food was pretty boring and unforgettable and the staff pompous. You can get way better elsewhere in London, even in the basic chain restaurants. I'm a londoner myself and I will never, ever return to this place. There's way better value in London.

In general, great service and cozy atmosphere. You can see some of the chefs cooking, which adds to the liveliness of the restaurant. Although it's a small place, the windows makes it looks slightly bigger and less stuffy. I had the carpaccio of seabass for appetizer and spicy octopus for main dish and they were both delicious. Fresh ingredients and... More

Good service and enjoyable food. Best to book because it is very popular at lunchtime and in the evenings. A full restaurant always appears to be a good bet and this is no exception.

CAme here for lunch with colleagues. We had a vriety of things and each was exceptional with everyone very happy. I had the squid bruschetta starter which was so light, followed by the pasta served in a napkin which has exquisite blue cheese sauce inside the pasta. A little noisy at the peak but discreet service and not bad prices... More

My favourite Italian in London. Everything on the menu is good. It doesn't come cheap but the flavour and freshness and imagination in every course is really impressive. It always feels like a special dining experience.

I came here with a friend for dinner this evening, having heard favourable reviews from a number of people. We hadn't booked but the staff kindly arranged a table at the bar for us in a half hours time, so we went away again and came back after having had a drink elsewhere. I rather liked the experience of sitting,... More

What I like about this place is that they don't waste time on a fancy long menus or excessively elaborated dishes. They keep it simple but authentic. What amazed me the most was the squid Bruschetta. Totally unexpected. Bread soaked on black squid ink topped with squids totally tasty. The fish was freshly cooked and still warm. I could have... More

Staying in Southwark

Neighborhood Profile
Southwark
Even before the arrival of the instantly iconic Shard, the riverside scene in Southwark had moved well beyond any up-and-coming phase of development. For quite some time, locals and out-of-towners alike have loved browsing the boutiques of Bermondsey High Street, foraging through the bounteous stalls at centuries old foodie haven Borough Market, and flocking to the banks of the Thames to enjoy some of Britain's biggest attractions such as Tate Modern and Shakespeare's Globe. Despite Southwark's many popular draws, instant calm can be achieved easily by turning down almost any side street. For more urban buzz, a quick stroll across famed bridges like the pedestrianized Millennium Bridge or the ever photogenic Tower Bridge yields access to the very core of Central London. And with London Bridge Station as this neighborhood's main transportation hub, getting across town (or to anywhere in England for that matter) is a relative breeze.
