Delicious food but overpowering cooking smells

We have just come back from dinner at Zucca. We hadn't been there for about two years.. The food was excellent and the staff lovely but we felt our meal (and evening!) was totally spoilt by the overpowering cooking smells from the open plan kitchen. Towards the end of our dinner we just wanted to... read more

Currently planning my next trip to London and Zucca as always will be first on my list. Love their fish and pasta and the wine list is excellent!!

So I am completely confused. As a regular and very happy customer of Zucca, I was perplexed by the comments that Zucca has 'air conditioning' problems and that smells from the kitchen are overwhelming. For me, the beauty of Zucca is that the kitchen is open, you can see the chefs cooking and far from bad smells, beautiful smells waft... More

Lunch with my girlfriends was a delight. Buzzy atmosphere with a great open kitchen with real Italian food cooked to perfection. This is my third visit and I can highly recommend the Zucca frittis and carpaccio of sea bass and any of the home made pastas. We had the delicious home made chocolates instead of a dessert as we were... More

I have just written another review where I have stated I am not a foodie and I am a vegetarian so do not trust my reviews on food but that is not wholly true. I like food, its just not highest on my list of priorities. I like good food, value for money, a good atmosphere and I work in... More

A favorite Restaurant of ours, whilst visiting London with friends. However on this occasion, we were all disappointed with the lack of air circulation and exhausting, from the cooking line. The smoke and cooking fumes were noticeably present from the moment we walked in and persisted all evening, throughout our meal. So much so, that all our clothes smelt of... More

I visited Zucca in the first few months it opened. It was a real gem. Fresh clean simple design. Buzzy atmosphere and great food. I was always badgering friends from the other side of town to try the best Italian in London. I went back last night. I hope it was just a bad night but the food was just... More

This was our second visit to Zucca and the high standards we experienced on our first visit were matched. All members of staff were welcoming, helpful and gracious. The superb food was presented in perfect portion sizes, leaving us satisfied without feeling stuffed. Excellent wine recommendations were well received. Will definitely eat at Zucca again.

I went to Zucca with my boyfriend for pre valentine's dinner. I ordered the Mussels as a starter and the day special Tortellini in Chicken broth as the main course. I noticed some stinking smell when a plate of mussels was put in front of me. Thought maybe the chef has put some blue cheese in it, and encouraged my... More

Staying in Southwark

Neighborhood Profile
Southwark
Even before the arrival of the instantly iconic Shard, the riverside scene in Southwark had moved well beyond any up-and-coming phase of development. For quite some time, locals and out-of-towners alike have loved browsing the boutiques of Bermondsey High Street, foraging through the bounteous stalls at centuries old foodie haven Borough Market, and flocking to the banks of the Thames to enjoy some of Britain's biggest attractions such as Tate Modern and Shakespeare's Globe. Despite Southwark's many popular draws, instant calm can be achieved easily by turning down almost any side street. For more urban buzz, a quick stroll across famed bridges like the pedestrianized Millennium Bridge or the ever photogenic Tower Bridge yields access to the very core of Central London. And with London Bridge Station as this neighborhood's main transportation hub, getting across town (or to anywhere in England for that matter) is a relative breeze.
