What a discovery! In the overcrowded, overpriced, overcomplicated world of eating in central London, Gauthier is a breathtaking surprise. Hidden behind a black door (I love a restaurant where you have to ring the bell!) and swathed in the Gallic opulence, you could be miles from the pile-driving madness of the Soho pavements. The dining room is light and airy,... More

I have been to Gauthier at soho half a dozen times now and it still keeping me coming back for more. The restaurant is warm and welcoming. It really gives you the feeling of being invited in to someones private home for a cozy dinner. The atmosphere is nice and relaxing, but the service is outstanding. You feel welcome without... More

I have been at the fantastic restaurant a couple of times, and I have never been disappointed. The delicious food is top class, and so is the very friendly and polite staff. Everything is very high standard, and the surroundings has a very stylish and elegant feel to it, that still gives you a sence of home. One of my... More

It's not bad. But you could find better prices and food elsewhere in London. It might be good to go for a last minute dinner as it's less busy.

Went last night as a party of five. Having checked out the menu online last week the Spring tasting menu looked so inviting I decided to raid my wine cellar and take some special wines to match. Yes, Gauthier have the answer to that old issue of wanting that same great bottle of wine you have at home but deciding... More

I have a new policy of keeping all excellent reviews short. Food, wine list, service, decor, atmosphere, even the music played in the loo> all excellent> by far my favourite place to eat in London. Going back this Saturday for more.

We dined from the set lunch menu which was £26 for two courses and two glasses of wine. The food was excellent, the service attentive, and the sommelier matched the wine to our choice of food. They also brought us an amuse bouche and canapés to start. The dining room is very formal and one downside was that it was... More

We went to Gauthier on a Friday night, table of two. We were welcomed nicely and promptly led to the first floor. The first floor feels cosy and homely despite a simple décor. All the tables were occupied totalising only about 20 guests. As aperitif, we had a glass of Champagne accompanied with small amuses-bouche, the best one was the... More

I always tell my friends who are nervous about splashing out on a dinner in a first class restaurant go and try the place by having the set lunch which is almost invariably a bargain. Well Gauthier goes one better and has a ' deluxe ' version which includes a glass of Champagne , two glasses of wine, three course... More

My husband and I had dinner at Gauthier on Saturday to celebrate our wedding anniversary. I had not been since Christmas so was eager to see the new menu. However the lovely manager, Damian, did not offer us the menu - instead as we are regular guests he put a tasting menu together for us on the spot! Service was... More

Staying in Soho

Neighborhood Profile
Soho
The go-to district for a good time in London, Soho hosts a wealth of world-class theatres and a compelling lineup of cafes, restaurants, pubs, bars, and clubs. At Soho's core is London's original Red Light District and the epicenter of the LGBT scene – and thus the city's hottest nightlife. For shopping enthusiasts, Soho is not only the home of London's greatest concentration of boutique shops, but also the most strategic place to set off on a tour of the world's most celebrated department stores. In the southern part of the neighborhood lies Chinatown, with its multitude of delicious and affordable restaurants. Closer to the Thames, Chinatown's narrow and teeming lantern-lit lanes spill onto the expansive hub of glitzy Leicester Square.
