fancied a pie

I really fancied a pie and had seen pies on the menu outside this pub before. I had the steak and Ale and my wife had the Chicken and Chardonnay (ye, Chardonnay). Both were served with chips/typical frozen veg and gravy. Have to say it was exactly what I was expecting and it was exactly what I... read more

Good location, pleasant staff, good atmosphere and good food - popular with the locals. Nothing dramatic or unusual but probably the best of the several various pubs in Shepherd Market.

This was a great English pub find near our rental apartment in London. They offer all the traditional English pub dishes. The menu is on the tables. You grab a table and sit. Once you decided on what you like, you go and order at the bar. Once the meals are ready, they bring it to your table. The atmosphere... More

The best pub in the area, the staff is very nice and the athmosphere is very relaxed. The food is great, and they have a good selection of wine and beer.

We were looking for somewhere to eat close to our hotel, but not your usual chain, and came across Shepherds Tavern in a great little area called Shepherds Market. The blue plaque made it even more interesting (the lovely Wendy Richard used to live there). Clearly frequented by locals, which is always a good sign, we managed to grab a... More

Superbly located in the Shepherds Market area of London, this is a great pub with good food, friendly and helpful staff and plenty of atmosphere. We stayed for dinner and the pies were really good. Evidently this pub was featured in the 1950s Alfred Hitchcock movie "Stagefright". This pub is very much a business persons pub so there are lots... More

The location is in Shepherds Market, a nice quaint area of 10+ Pubs and other cuisines, and a short walk from the Sheraton Park Lane on Piccadilly. Food is good, nice beer selections, wine, etc. The steak & ale pie is a must. Fish & Chips good too. It's much nicer atmosphere on the 1st floor vs. 2nd. Kitchen closes... More

Was on my own and wanted to watch football. Sat at bar and ate good steak, couple of pints of guiness in great location.

The steak was like a chewing gum. You have to order and take all the amenities from ground floor to the first floor. You are served like a fast food chain but they charge at restaurant price. Avoid.

Shepherds Market is a must for visitors to London. The Tavern has lots of history as does the Market.

Staying in Mayfair

Neighborhood Profile
Mayfair
Set beside some of London's best parks and home to world-class galleries, luxurious hotels, and famed thoroughfares, the ultra upscale Mayfair is one of London's most exclusive haunts. Here the shopping is haute, the dining is exquisite, and the nightlife is vibrant. A casual stroll through the area’s chic streets will reveal that Michelin stars and chauffeured cars are practically the norm here. Even if you're on a tight budget, this exceptionally well connected swath of Central London is worth exploring, if only for the chance to take a peak at the goings on of upper crust English society.
