Busy pub offering good British fare

We were staying in a hotel nearby and had passed this pub so we decided to pop in for dinner before heading off to the theatre. The pub was very busy, a member of staff was eating his dinner at a table, which he gave up for us as there were not any vacant tables. Dinner was delicious, served... read more

The Black Lion is proper old London pub which has high ceilings and dark old walls and floor. It also sells a good range of beers but I wouldn’t bother dining here because the menu is part of the chain that is widely available all over London plus it wasn’t that good the last time I tried it.

so much for the festive spirit. not a Christmas gift but one big Christmas day rip off. ordered fish and chips and a pint came to £22 something and when it arrived I was disgusted I could have gone around the corner and hand three fish and chips for the same price plus got more chips. staff must have been... We went to the place, to eat something! It was our first day at London, then we asked for the fish and chips, and what a surprise: It was amazingly good!!! We drunk a beer and wine, that it was good too!

We had just arrived in London, and decided to take a walk to have some to eat and drink, we stop by the pub and we had a pleasant surprise. The waiter was very nice, the fish and chips were very very good, nice beers and honest wine options. Recommend for snack an drinks!!!!

We had the fish and chips was OK but I guess being Canadian it was not as good to my taste as our shop in Winnipeg. The food was hot...and not overly expensive. Atmosphere just OK.

I included the Lion in my favourites list after taking it off because food was awful. My last 2 Sunday roasts were very poor. Service is bad and food of very poor quality. I always had the lamb and the reason of why I started eating at the lion again is because i though they've improved food and services because... More

Absolutely loved this pub! Went in for a quick drink and ended up staying for 2 hours! Loved the decoration, the ambience, the lighting, the seating (if you can get on the big comfy sofas it is ace!), and the crowd. The staff are very friendly and fast, lovely place all-round and I just wish I was in that area... More

Good typical English food - fish and chips, etc. Good beer selection on draft - cask beers too. Nice folks to serve you in a friendly atmosphere. All ages seem to gather here so everyone feels welcome.

Staying in Notting Hill

Neighborhood Profile
Notting Hill
As West London's friskiest corner, Notting Hill more than manages to retain plenty of the same appeal that's brought the affluent area so much worldwide attention. In this attractive cobblestoned neighborhood, a delectable variety of eateries, independent shops, galleries and street vendors offer a delightful window into how to live the good life in London, with each presenting visitors with an experience that's a little more idiosyncratic and endearing than the last. Travelers looking to forage for antiques should be sure to visit the Portobello Road Market on Saturdays, the largest antiques market in the United Kingdom.
