Great steaks - good service - but expensive

I visit Gaucho about once a quarter and always enjoy it, but depending upon who I am going with, I always have to think twice about whether the bank account or expense account will withstand the shock. Steaks are well-presented and I have always had a good one - tender and full of flavour, cooked... read more

Disappointing. I think gauchos has had its day. Too commercial/chain like now. The food is still reasonably good but the service and overall experience does not justify the price. Hawksmoor wins every time at this price range.

The best steak I had ever eaten was on a barbarque in South Africa until I visited Gaucho, Tower Bridge. We were in London for an exclusive Hen Do - I say exclusive, what I mean is we didn't feel obligated to invite the people we hate, so the company was exceptional and the food just as wonderful. Alastair looked... More

I visited Gaucho for the first time last night - an impromptu business dinner - we walked in at 8:30pm and got a table. The steak was excellent - as was the wine. The restaurant had a great atmosphere - buzzing - a great place to go for a meal with friends - perhaps not one for a romantic meal.... More

Was there on 23rd April with out of town guests. We had the sharing menu. the only thing that was good was the sausage. Steak was dry and served medium to well done and tasteless. Took a long time to remove plates from table, and had to wait 30min for coffee. As the evening progressed the waiters we less interested.... More

Visited Gaucho for the first time after wanting to for ages, it was a surprise trip for my other halves birthday. We were 20minutes late for our reservation (our fault!) but this wasn't a problem and from the second we walked in the staff were lovely. I had previously emailed to say it was my partners birthday and I'd have... More

This was a visit for my husband's birthday. My 2 children (both foodies) had promised we were only having one course each. We were persuaded to have olives and bread which was excellent - 3 different breads - all yummy and delicious olives with herbs and tomatoes/chilies etc. We had 2 drinks each and each had a steak. It came... More

Loved the food and the atmosphere. The deco was great, the only thing I can complain about is the fact that the table wasn't cleaned in between courses. When I asked though, it was done. All of the staff were excellent apart from one (maybe because I asked him to clean the table !) Definitely recommend it and will go... More

This restaurant offered good service and the food was great. The restaurant itself was very dark so has to use a mobile phone in order to read the menu. Perhaps a candle on the table would help. Not worth the cost unfortunately as it was so dark it ruined our evening. Very loud music so could not hear each other... More

Staying in Southwark

Neighborhood Profile
Southwark
Even before the arrival of the instantly iconic Shard, the riverside scene in Southwark had moved well beyond any up-and-coming phase of development. For quite some time, locals and out-of-towners alike have loved browsing the boutiques of Bermondsey High Street, foraging through the bounteous stalls at centuries old foodie haven Borough Market, and flocking to the banks of the Thames to enjoy some of Britain's biggest attractions such as Tate Modern and Shakespeare's Globe. Despite Southwark's many popular draws, instant calm can be achieved easily by turning down almost any side street. For more urban buzz, a quick stroll across famed bridges like the pedestrianized Millennium Bridge or the ever photogenic Tower Bridge yields access to the very core of Central London. And with London Bridge Station as this neighborhood's main transportation hub, getting across town (or to anywhere in England for that matter) is a relative breeze.
