Very enjoyable. Knowledgeable staff. Good buzz.

My colleague and spent a fun night at the bar in Hix. The team were pleasant and attentive. The atmosphere was buzzing for a Tuesday. There's a decent menu, perhaps a bit toppy on some of the steak/chop prices. A good evening. I would go again.

We chose this restaurant based on it's location and meny and we were not disappointed. Having stopped in the Grand Union bar nearby for a couple of pre-dinner cocktails on the way, we arrived at around 8pm on Saturday night. The restaurant was not too busy and there was quiet background music playing. We had a good table on the... More

We (a group of work colleagues) had a relaxed evening of good food and very good service at Hix. My starter of 6 oysters and spicy sausage was only spoilt by the spicy sausage. This was disappointing as I expected a more rustic, hand crafted sausage. However, the oysters were fresh and delicious. The main of veal ( requested cooked... More

Having eaten at the Hix, Lyme Regis, we were looking forward to visiting this restaurant. We arrived at 5pm to an almost empty restaurant and were placed at a window table. The food was average but "MacDonalds fries" were disappointing. We expected proper chips for the additional charge. The main problem, though, was watching a passerby rummaging through rubbish bags... Way too expensive for a very average dinner. 70£ per head for three courses and split carafe of wine, and nothing remarkable about it. A simple fish on the bone put in the oven for 15mn for £24 with no sides is not what I call cooking and what I call a rip off. Can do better at home without... More

We come to hix in Farringdon quite a lot but always forget to review-shame on us! The waiters know their meat, nothing is too much trouble and we never want to leave. Credit to mark and his crew for continuity throughout their restaurants and it is now a date night and family occasion regular. Superb

The bread, the steak tartar, the lamb mutton curry, the veg, the cheese board, the beers, the service, the atmosphere. All faultless. Came to about £80 a head which was fair.

My boyfriend and I went to have a nice meal in Hix restaurant, near Smithfield’s market. Unfortunately the South Devon Ruby Red fillet steak (apparently worth 36,50GBP) cooked medium rare according to the chef, was really dry and overcooked, my boyfriend send it back asking for really red, even blue this time, it came back exactly the same dry and... Lovely setting quite busy, but service was good and food wonderful. We were shown the cuts of meat and portion sizes, prior to ordering. I had the Hanger steak and Marrowbone, which was delicious and very filling, accompanied with Fries and Beetroot with Horseradish. Try the chocolate mousse if you really want indulgence.

The shining star here during our visit was the house baked bread. Service was attentive and pleasant, and the atmosphere was buzzing and comfortable. If we had it to do over again, we might have chosen different entrees, the beef wasn't a stand-out, but WAS good. We loved the oyster starters and THAT BREAD! Wine list was fun, too. All... More

Staying in Clerkenwell

Neighborhood Profile
Clerkenwell
Owing to its proximity to Smithfield Market – the site of an ancient meat market which remains in operation today – Clerkenwell boasts a plethora of globally renowned restaurants, fabulous local eateries, and some of London's favorite pubs. This isn't merely a focal point for all things foodie though. Spend enough time wondering through the area's maze of streets and you might become accustomed to the litany of slinky models passing between Clerkenwell's handful of fashion houses. Far outnumbering the models are craftspeople and designers, many of them are more than happy to welcome visitors into their studios and showrooms.
