South African Restaurant on the banks of The Thames

This is very much a South African restaurant from the menu and the staff. It is to be found on the north bank of The Thames near the Millennium Bridge. It has lovely views at ground level of the Thames. We were able to have our drinks outside the restaurant before going into eat. We went on a... read more

Visited High Timber with two colleagues for a business lunch. The setting, as has been previously mentioned, is absolutely beautiful - there are outside seats for sunny days, but inside the big windows still let you enjoy the view of the Thames and the riverside buildings and bridges. My starter of English Asparagus (spelled Aspargus on the menu for some... More

Went on a warmish June night, and the location sitting out next to the Thames couldn't be beaten. Service was friendly and wine (as you would expect) was good and good value. But, the food just wasn't as good as previously - chips were flaccid rather than crisp, the food was warm rather than hot, and the cheese room was... More

Amazing place! The found and wine is outstanding. I recommend the Malva pudding for dessert, taste of heaven! This place is fantastic the food and service is 5* and the location is just a bonus! Amazing view of the Thames, with the Tate modern and globe theatre opposite and the shard in the background I also thinks his place would... More

Brought my partner to High timber after being referred by a friend. Initially I loved the simple, warm décor and plentiful staff. I soon realised that the view of the Thames was indeed lovely, but not quite as exceptional as the friend had portrayed. During the summer I could imagine this place to do very well and feel more alive.... More

Fab steak. Fab wine. Great views. Couldn't ask for much more on a rainy night in London. Will most definitely be back.

We went as a party of four on my recommendation, following a very pleasant experience a couple of years back. The restaurant is well suited to long, warm summer evenings with tables inside and out, but in winter it seems drab and lacklustre. No buzz. The food was good, and the wine OK, although we really needed more guidance with... More

Took a client here recently as he wanted "a seriously good steak but not in some dark place". I guess he was getting at some of the more recent openings where you're either in a basement or a dungeon-esque type place surrounded by red leather and wood panels. This place sprang to my mind as it's bang on the river,... More

Having just visited South Africa and desperately wanting to go back, my girlfriend and I read up about SA restaurants in London and came across High Timber which seemed to review very well. The location is pretty good, right on the water and close to St Paul's and the Millennium Bridge. The restaurant itself is not overly impressive to behold... More

Amazing food! If you enjoy a quiet place to enjoy dinner fro business colleagues or friends, this place is for you. The food is brilliant and the hostess is very personable. Have been enjoying dinner here for the last 4 years! Amazing gem in central London!

Staying in City of London

Neighborhood Profile
City of London
From its ancient past as a Roman trading outpost to its 21st century status as the wealthiest square mile in the world, the financial district known simply as “The City” is one of London's most historic and fascinating neighborhoods. Here high rise office towers such as Norman Foster’s Gherkin mingle with Roman ruins and architectural marvels from virtually every era in between, including Christopher Wren's glorious St.Paul's Cathedral, and John Soane's dauntingly classicist Bank of England. This neighborhood is also home to some of the finest restaurants and plushest hotels in Europe, in addition to an assortment of watering holes, upscale shops, and Tube stations. During the week, the City is abuzz with white collar workers going about their business; the weekend sees this area turn into a quiet haven for sightseers.
