Difficult to find - good menu, good food

Hidden down a pretty dank alleyway, the restaurant is indicated by a gaudy neon sign part way down the alley. very easy to miss, the place cannot get much passing trade. Inside, an interesting architectural place. The menu is varied; helpings are large; food is well cooked. Altogether a pretty... read more

The restaurant is in the basement and, going there in the dark, reminded me of a Dickensian Alleyway. Entering the restaurant, the ground floor is a Pub and the main restaurant is downstairs in the basement/cellars in what is, obviously, a very old building. This lends character and ambiance. The first part of the restaurant is a long narrow shape... More

I have become a regular at Boisdale. Steaks are fantastic - best I have had in London. Service is good and thankfully not starchy. Boisdale Claret is a no brainer from the wine list if you are eating red meat. Gin and Tonic is a proper grown up measure. What is there not to like about this place - wish... More

I was invited to Burns Night super at Boidale a great restaurant where quality of the food is guaranteed. Well I took the plunge to attend a Burns Supper and eat Haggis. We were piped to the table by a Piper. Out host addressed the Haggis with a few verses from Robert Burns. He the attacked the Haggis with great... More

Hello Ralph B, I am thrilled to hear that you dived right into Burns celebrations and tried the Haggis and more importantly enjoyed it! It really would not be a Scottish restaurant if we did not serve up the all important dish - especially on the day where we celebrate one of Scotland's great men. Thank you for taking the... More

Lovely food and attentive, professional service. Atmosphere somehow feels dark but not a big problem. Love music accompanied nicely too.

I visited with a former work colleagues and we all agreed beforehand that this would be a good choice, we were proved right. On all counts it was a great evening, from food, to drink and then the company. I had scallops to start and if there was one tiny issue with the whole evening then it was the fact... More

Somewhat difficult to find the entrance, but once inside welcome was warm and friendly. Food and wine was very good and staff were well trained and knowledgeable with the menu. Service was prompt without being rushed and staff were attentive. Dining area was quite hot despite the air conditioning being on and the background music was still playing when the... More

This was a Christmas lunch for quite a large group and the staff coped fairly well after a bit of a wait for us to order - given the 3 choices for each course on the Table d'hôte menu this was probably a little unnecessary. Interesting location- really down a blind alley- and there lies a smaller lookalike of big Belgravia brother: same decor, same Scottish influence; maybe not quite so slick. Menu quite short, but still good smoked salmon, and haggis of course . Service prompt and courteous, coping well with the advent of long Christmas lunch parties.

Staying in City of London

Neighborhood Profile
City of London
From its ancient past as a Roman trading outpost to its 21st century status as the wealthiest square mile in the world, the financial district known simply as “The City” is one of London's most historic and fascinating neighborhoods. Here high rise office towers such as Norman Foster’s Gherkin mingle with Roman ruins and architectural marvels from virtually every era in between, including Christopher Wren's glorious St.Paul's Cathedral, and John Soane's dauntingly classicist Bank of England. This neighborhood is also home to some of the finest restaurants and plushest hotels in Europe, in addition to an assortment of watering holes, upscale shops, and Tube stations. During the week, the City is abuzz with white collar workers going about their business; the weekend sees this area turn into a quiet haven for sightseers.
