Great Sushi, Friendly Service, Good Price.

This was our first visit to Tsuru but we will certainly be visiting it again. It does have quite a small selection of dishes; this is great because you know what you are served will be fresh and of a high standard. When Tsuru first opened, it was a step above all other lunchtime sushi places. They had a wide menu, with various sushi / sashimi options, great Katsu curry, fried chicken and scotch eggs. But it was always about the sushi and this is where they've let themselves down. Presumably down to cost saving, they've gradually reduced the choice on their... More

I work nearby and saw the sign outside advertising 3 types of ramen - so figured i would give it a try on a cold wintry day. It is a clean tidy take away place, with ample bench seating on one side to accommodate the fast lunch crowd. The chicken ramen was extremely disappointing and unsatisfying. At £5.95, it contained... I went here for lunch and had a sit-down chicken katsu curry. The food was tasty and it came in just over my expense budget so I was happy - I wouldn't have paid for it if I wasn't on expenses though. The seating area was adequate for everyone coming in and they brought the food to my table which... More

I had two servings of chicken karaage (Japanese-style fried chicken) and it was pretty good, especially for £7.20. Both of my colleagues got chicken-based dishes (the katsu curry and the weird chicken thigh sandwich) and they also enjoyed them. If you want a really cheap post-work meal and you're near a Tsuru, I recommend it.

Been here many times, but going to keep this review brief. Sushi is so so and doesn't distinguish itself from the likes of Itsu/Wasabi. Trying to charge more for less means I get my sushi fix elsewhere. Hot menu is very average. Nothing that screams 'amazing'. Their katsu curry though is far better than the chains though (not hard), and... More

The food was delicious, but not superb. We ate outside and the service was a little slow. It's convenient and not too much expensive, but I had higher expectations. Ashi beer is fantastic!

Really fast and convenient for a quick take-away and authentic-tasting katsu curry. Big portions too!

Staying in Southwark

Neighborhood Profile
Southwark
Even before the arrival of the instantly iconic Shard, the riverside scene in Southwark had moved well beyond any up-and-coming phase of development. For quite some time, locals and out-of-towners alike have loved browsing the boutiques of Bermondsey High Street, foraging through the bounteous stalls at centuries old foodie haven Borough Market, and flocking to the banks of the Thames to enjoy some of Britain's biggest attractions such as Tate Modern and Shakespeare's Globe. Despite Southwark's many popular draws, instant calm can be achieved easily by turning down almost any side street. For more urban buzz, a quick stroll across famed bridges like the pedestrianized Millennium Bridge or the ever photogenic Tower Bridge yields access to the very core of Central London. And with London Bridge Station as this neighborhood's main transportation hub, getting across town (or to anywhere in England for that matter) is a relative breeze.
