good food, convenient to us, nice pub will be back

We arrived in london after a number royal related traffic problems and found this pub very close to our hotel. we walked in off of the street, no waiting, friendly staff and good food (one item was not ready for serving as yet). stools meant that it would not be a long visit, but it was a good... read more

The beer was fantastic....the food was shocking. The ploughman's was the worst I've ever had. 1 piece of stale brown bread, 1 pickled onion, 1 pickled gherkin, 1 very small piece of cheddar, 1 lettuce leaf, a small piece of chopped red onion and a quarter of a tomato, oh and i shouldn't forget the whole apple!....all for the bargain... We were walking in the area and stopped in for a Sunday lunch. The bartender suggested we share the Sunday three meat lunch special and that was a good recommendation. Typical pub fare and a nice decorated area upstairs to see a typical Victorian sitting room.

Great pub fare and a cool, if somewhat creepy, life sized diorama. I have at least one meal here every trip to London. The hop on buses seem to stop right at the corner, too.

met some friends here for drinks as we knew it would be easy to find. Bar staff were friendly, the beer was well kept (my husband advised), the wine was nice. There were a number of rowdy football supporters drinking outside which made conversation difficult but that is no reflection on the pub itself. Did not eat here but came... More

Well run pub with great English food and beers comfortable seating a snug place would be said if you was in the UK staff frendly and very helpfull, would be a bit cramped if a lot off people was there at the same time, bit like a small English pub in the country

Only popped in for a pint while we waited for the Ghost Bus which starts from over the road. Friendly staff and a nice pint with a quick look at the Sherlock Holmes memorabilia made it a nice place to wait. Was good to find a normal pub in the middle of town.

We ate with out two English friends who certified the meal as great! I had the toad in the hole as I wanted to sample the Yorkshire pudding ( a pastry of sorts) This place was buzzing with locals and some Rugby team had won some tournament and were happily singing outside. We were in the quiet dining room and... More

Great atmosphere, traditional London pub with a good range of beers. Popular with tourists and locals alike. Pub food available in restaurant upstairs.

Staying in Trafalgar Square / Embankment

Neighborhood Profile
Trafalgar Square / Embankment
With its iconic Nelson’s Column, majestic oversized lions and brightly-lit fountains, Trafalgar Square is not just considered the heart of this bustling London hub, but the very core of the city itself. Beyond this esteemed gathering place are more famous icons, as well as a disproportionate numbers of the city’s most popular cultural attractions including the National Gallery and many West End theaters. Along the way to these major sites are quiet lanes and antiquated pubs to discover, as well as riverside vistas to enjoy on the embankment. With a calendar full of celebratory events, any time of year is a fine time to visit.
