The Square restaurant in Londons ultra-smart Mayfair has four right angles: great food, wines, service, and location. The dining room is a refined space where you can seal a deal, celebrate a triumph, or simply dine incredibly well. Chef Patron Philip Howard has earned a pair of Michelin stars for his unique French-inspired haute cuisine using impeccable ingredients to create dishes capable of both gossamer elegance and vivid boldness all in the same bite. Everything is superb, though we particularly recommend the herb-crusted saddle of lamb with shallot pure, artichokes, balsamic vinegar and olive oil. The Squares wine list wine bible, really runs to 80 pages of the worlds finest.

OK, the food was very tasty BUT, we were given a 3 course lunch as a gift and therefore only shown the choice for this voucher. Surely we could have been offered the chance to add to the value of the gift in order to try the tasting menu rather than making assumptions? Atmosphere was so discreet as... read more

Another lunch at the Square confirmed my previous experience. The starter was the best I can remember since long time: white beet root salad with salsify and truffles caused a sensation in the mouth. As a main course monkfish with cepes and Parmesan-gnocchi just melted on the tongue, the vegan maincourse with cepes was very tasty. The mango variation as... More

There's a reason this is a Michelin 2 star restaurant. I wouldn't change a thing. Tasting menu is a treat--highly recommend!

Had an ala carte dinner with some friends on a recent visit to London. Overall, the food was excellent. We felt there was no need for the tasting menu as being comfortable with each other, we were happy to taste each others' meals! In any event, they were generous with canapés at the start. The foie gras cornetto in particular... More

This is my second visit to The Square and it was so improved from the first time, I had to review it again. My complaints last time included a lack of atmosphere, too many staff doing nothing and questionable service. This time, we went for another Saturday lunch. The restaurant was much busier, which gave a really nice atmosphere. And... More

This has to be one of the best meals I have had. The food is wonderful with many new flavours and so beautifully presented. The menu is one of those where you find it difficult to choose because everything sounds so good and when it arrived nothing was a disappointment. Service throughout the evening was impeccable and the only critism... More

If you've never had the pleasure of dining at a Michelin star place that's got a wooden spoon up its backside, then expect to drink a lot of water, because you're going to be sweating like something that sweats a lot. It's an atmosphere wherein clanging your fork against your plate or spilling red wine gravy on the tablecloth is... More

Visiting as a group of 4 (2 couples) for the Saturday daytime lunch menu. We went away very impressed and completely satisfied, every course was stunning and I was so impressed by the Gluten free options and knowledge of the staff. We had the accompanying wine with each course, each came with it's own story and history and some were... More

Celebrating a 40th birthday, not only was the food perfectly presented, tasty and balanced but the service was on point and they even presented my wife with a personalised birthday card from the team and some yummy gift packaged chocolates, nice touch! Had to ask twice for the bill, which was a surprise to us in a restaurant of this... More

Staying in Mayfair

Neighborhood Profile
Mayfair
Set beside some of London's best parks and home to world-class galleries, luxurious hotels, and famed thoroughfares, the ultra upscale Mayfair is one of London's most exclusive haunts. Here the shopping is haute, the dining is exquisite, and the nightlife is vibrant. A casual stroll through the area’s chic streets will reveal that Michelin stars and chauffeured cars are practically the norm here. Even if you're on a tight budget, this exceptionally well connected swath of Central London is worth exploring, if only for the chance to take a peak at the goings on of upper crust English society.
