No frills, but quite good for what it is

This is a no frills joint in terms of ambiance, but we've been pleasantly surprised by the service as well as the food. Granted, we've only tried two vegetarian dishes, but we were very pleased with them on several occasions. The Vegetable Curry with rice is quite delicious. It comes with... read more

many of the items on the menu are good, you need to know what you like and choose wisely. I've been here quite a few times now, the ebi gyoza are lovely. it's not a truly Japanese restaurant but near enough and it's fairly reasonably priced. a service charge of 10% is automatically added on, do check the total bill.... I dined here for lunch with friend today. Food was good at reasonable prices. Service was friendly. I would recommend this place for casual dining in Soho

I went for lunch alone and made a order of Chicken cutlet curry. But the cutlet is neither well bread crumbed nor juicy. I don't recommend it. Misono's and Eat Tokyo's should be much more tasty and cheaper. I had better had bento but I am sure I will not go to Taro any more.

Great honest Japanese food. Fresh, tasty, not overpriced. I love to sit on the Bar by the kitchen, watching the chefs cooking and making the sushi to order. The tables and chairs are simple and wooden. Menus are plastic covered and act as place mats. The bento box menus offer great value and a sample of the best and most... More

I go there pretty often, specially if we hang out in Central London. Food is very good and prices are not bad so I would recommend it. Our favourite is Chicken Teridon (Chicken Teriyaki and rice). Is very tasty and filling. However, I don't recommend the Katsu Curry. The chicken was tasty but there were too many potatoes on the... More

We came here for a late lunch. And I had ramen which I found to be a little bland with not much added to the noodles. I was expecting some more meat/protein on top of the ramen. My daughter had the other ramen - she found it ok. So overall, ok, would probably try something else next time.

I've tried many of London's Japanese restaurants but somehow never managed to get to Taro, despite walking past many times. This evening we happened to be wandering past just while discussing dinner options. After checking the menu we wandered in and were quickly seated and shown menus. Taro is a casual joint and the tables are close together, but we... More

Great and varied menu ranging from noodle, ramen and obviously sushi. Not the best in London but a good choice when you are and about in the west end so will certainly come back.

I use to come to taro for lunch since there wasn't many people. However I was disappointed by going there for dinner is a disaster, and the quality of the sushi falls below standard, the curry as well. The prices are not bad try go there when it is not busy , I recommend the chicken teriyaki .

Staying in Soho

Neighborhood Profile
Soho
The go-to district for a good time in London, Soho hosts a wealth of world-class theatres and a compelling lineup of cafes, restaurants, pubs, bars, and clubs. At Soho's core is London's original Red Light District and the epicenter of the LGBT scene – and thus the city's hottest nightlife. For shopping enthusiasts, Soho is not only the home of London's greatest concentration of boutique shops, but also the most strategic place to set off on a tour of the world's most celebrated department stores. In the southern part of the neighborhood lies Chinatown, with its multitude of delicious and affordable restaurants. Closer to the Thames, Chinatown's narrow and teeming lantern-lit lanes spill onto the expansive hub of glitzy Leicester Square.
