Modern in its minimalist use of dark wood, clean lines and bare-as-a-babas-wotsit walls, Sohos So looks every bit the contemporary Japanese restaurant. The airy ground floor bar, dining area and shop-of-sorts (Japanese crockery sits prettily in numerous display cabinets) leads down to a main dining room. The furniture there is still wooden but stained almost black. The cooking is consistently very good creative without being fussy, and much of it using organic ingredients. Menu in hand, make a visual beeline for the tempura selections (gorgeous), and then Grilled list. These knockout dishes most notably the Wagyu rump, and Iberico pork are cooked in the open kitchen over a rather special yogan-yaki grill resulting in an unique flavour. Friendly staff will knowledgeably suggest dishes and drinks.

Amazing food, but very expensive

The food is simply amazing! We got the miso aubergine and the tuna tataki as starters. Amazing tastes both. Especially the aubergine. We got two miso soups, 1 vegetable tempura, a selection of sushi and maki rolls (19 in total) and one of the day's special, which was tofu steak in teriyaki sauce... read more

So was recommended to me by someone who was introduced to So by a Japanese friend and he spoke very highly of it. It seemed to be a cut above the fairly basic looking sushi places that are abundant in this part of town. The Nigiri and Roll set was decent value at £18.50. All of the fish tasted fresh... More

We ordered a variety of platters, chicken meat tasted dry and the others was just drowned in sauce. Food was overrated and the portion was small but the bill however, was sky high. Never again.

Visited during busy lunch time; the restaurant was busy, but service ws quick & friendly. We had salmon sushi plate and tempura (Mixed Tempura Set + Prawn Tempura), all delicious.

I went there for the very famous foie gras rice, so me and my boyfriend ordered it, a raw Wagyu beef and a sushi platter. The amount of foie gras that you get is quite generous with the price (£22). It's very tasty with the sauce and mushrooms, foie gras were pan-friend nicely. The sushi platter and wagyu beef was... More

Good food and service. Nice atmosphere. Not a cheap eat. Some vegetarian options. Difficult to know how to order unless you understand Japanese food. Reasonably priced but not in anyway cheap.

Came here with a friend who have been here before and was hooked by this place's foie gras on rice. I was a bit reluctant to get this because I thought it'd be really rich and heavy, not to mention unhealthy to have so much foie gras as the mains. So, I ordered the Iberico pork. I was quite surprised... More

I was very impressed with this restaurant: very hospitable and attentive staff , good service. Excellent food, especially spider crab rolls and green tea cake for dessert, served with black sesame ice-cream! Delicious. The special in-house 9% beers are also a must-try!

Having just returned from Japan I thought I'd see what London could offer. This place, though expensive, was superb. The staff were friendly, intelligent and accommodating.
