Description: Modern in its minimalist use of dark wood, clean lines and bare-as-a-babas-wotsit walls, Sohos So looks every bit the contemporary Japanese restaurant. The airy ground floor bar, dining area and shop-of-sorts (Japanese crockery sits prettily in numerous display cabinets) leads down to a main dining room. The furniture there is still wooden but stained almost black. The cooking is consistently very good creative without being fussy, and much of it using organic ingredients. Menu in hand, make a visual beeline for the tempura selections (gorgeous), and then Grilled list. These knockout dishes most notably the Wagyu rump, and Iberico pork are cooked in the open kitchen over a rather special yogan-yaki grill resulting in an unique flavour. Friendly staff will knowledgeably suggest dishes and drinks.

We've been looking for Japanese restaurant suitable for families or family friendly. Following Tripadvisor searched a lot of Japanese restaurant pop up in the Centre of London. However, are all of them Japanese? I do think that to have the right to be called Japanese, you need to comply some basic criteria,...Japanese chef and Japanese staff or Staff trained by... More

Just around the corner from Brewer Street’s stretch of cheap and cheerful Japanese restaurants, but clearly aiming for a more concerning diner. Seating on ground floor and basement. The downstairs dining room has a polished, contemporary feel. All Japanese staff and many Japanese customers which gave us the impression that it must be genuine. Food was good, the beef excellent... You must try this restaurant - fabulous variety of food, the scallops are to die for! the Sushi was the best I've ever eaten. My Husband was equally as excited about the stewed pork! The waiter was friendly and informative and the service was great - we sat downstairs and enjoyed watching the chefs cook in a open kitchen area... More

I have known this restaurant for the past 4 years and I have always loved returning. They serve very authentic Japanese food, mainly centered on sushi and sashimi. Service is nice and friendly. Food quality is good and remains constant over years. Their nigiri, sashimi selection are awesome. Tempura is brillant also. Eel on rice is very nice. Their dessert... More

We had Foie Gras rice and bento, and also a sushi platter and a pot of Sencha. The Foie Gras was unbearably salty. Sencha was so bland as if there was no tea in it. The fish was fresh and delicious, which was probably the reason why I remained seated to the end of the meal. Besides, it was totally... More

Nice atmosphere with a friendly but forgetful staff, forgot to bring ordered sparkling water and totally forgot to bring us the bill at the end. The food was below average, with seemingly oversize portions to make up for the sub par quality. The most basic requirement for a Japanese restaurant is to be able to cut the sashimi properly. Which... More

Nice looking restaurant, but average food with very high quality prices, we had a selection of sushi for 2\3 person for 48£, honestly my expectations was higher but here is central London so is fine. I just been disappointed with the waitress, she was kind enough, but she absolutely wanted us to order as soon as possible, and when i... More

We ordered a variety of mains and starters to share - braised pork neck, soft shell crab tempura and scallop salad as starters, salmon sashimi, prawn and uni sashimi as starters. For mains, we had the foie gras rice and salmon teriyaki rice. We ordered drinks, as well as tap water (that never got refilled). It was extremely difficult to... More

Went here with a friend for dinner as I saw the menu had foie gras rice on it and was attracted by that. Turns out the hype was just that - hype. Food turned up and was below average. Foie gras was overcooked and lacking in quantity. Running down the menu, was also over priced for the food offered. Desserts... More

I found this restaurant on the hyper Japan website and I gave it a try. The restaurant is quite cosy and calm when you first entered. The choices of maki-rolls or uramaki are not very many, and we ordered one spicy California roll which has 4 pieces. Each maki is huge! This is not what a proper Japanese maki should... More
