Modern in its minimalist use of dark wood, clean lines and bare-as-a-babas-wotsit walls, Sohos So looks every bit the contemporary Japanese restaurant. The airy ground floor bar, dining area and shop-of-sorts (Japanese crockery sits prettily in numerous display cabinets) leads down to a main dining room. The furniture there is still wooden but stained almost black. The cooking is consistently very good creative without being fussy, and much of it using organic ingredients. Menu in hand, make a visual beeline for the tempura selections (gorgeous), and then Grilled list. These knockout dishes most notably the Wagyu rump, and Iberico pork are cooked in the open kitchen over a rather special yogan-yaki grill resulting in an unique flavour. Friendly staff will knowledgeably suggest dishes and drinks.

A really good option for Japanese food

I had lunch at the So restaurant with a group of colleagues and I found it very good. Staff were very attentive, the food was excellent and the price quality was overall excellent. It didn't blew me away as a Japanese but it's indeed a place where I'd back to for some very tasty Japanese food.

The first time I had dinner here was around 2007. I have been to So restaurant many times between 2007 and now, and have had no complaints about any of those visits. During my most recent visit I realized that their food quality has not decreased at all (this happened to some other restaurants) - the food was delicious as... More

We came here for dinner as a spur of the moment decision. We were seated immediately, the staff were friendly and attentive, and the food was fantastic! Sushimi so fresh it melts in your mouth, wagu beef so tasty we had to order another portion, could have eaten 10 more! David was one of the chefs served us - food... More

The visit didn't start well, with a booking that had disappeared. Don't know how many times I was asked for the booking name (Tom for 8 o'clock table for two) but minute examination by three members of staff over an extended period didn't help. In the end we got seated but that experience rated as one of the worst restaurant... More

Thanks to the manager for making out Meal a very pleasurable one. He really took the time to explain the menu choices and also gave us a sample of eel which I never would eat normally but on this occasion it was delicious, in the form of a dragon roll. Absolutely amazing. Well priced and service was second to none,... More

So is an old favourite and although I have not been back for over a year (our office moved), it was great to see it serving the same, excellent value and delicious lunch boxes as before. Highly recommended.

Sadly So Restaurant's food just doesn't hold up against the competition, particularly given the price. We had the Tuna Tataki and the Scallop with Daikon salad for starter. I was actually a bit offended to find we were served such poor cuts of tuna - filled with cartilage that was impossible to chew - surely no good Japanese restaurant would... More

Very good location. That's the best I can say about this Japanese restaurant. The food was good, the service bellow average. Look for something else. You can surely do better.

I had lunch here during the American Express Shop Small promotion and paid a net amount of just £5 for lunch (usual cost £10 for the lunch special, chicken teriyaki or salmon teriyaki). I have dined here several times previously, always for lunch. I think this is a great option if you would like good food served efficiently and I... More

Our first visit to So Restaurant was enjoyable. The dishes are very well presented and we particularly enjoyed the chicken teriyaki, sliced tuna and smoked duck dishes. There was a bit of confusion over whether we wanted our dishes in a single course but this was politely resolved by the manager.

Staying in Soho

Neighborhood Profile
Soho
The go-to district for a good time in London, Soho hosts a wealth of world-class theatres and a compelling lineup of cafes, restaurants, pubs, bars, and clubs. At Soho's core is London's original Red Light District and the epicenter of the LGBT scene – and thus the city's hottest nightlife. For shopping enthusiasts, Soho is not only the home of London's greatest concentration of boutique shops, but also the most strategic place to set off on a tour of the world's most celebrated department stores. In the southern part of the neighborhood lies Chinatown, with its multitude of delicious and affordable restaurants. Closer to the Thames, Chinatown's narrow and teeming lantern-lit lanes spill onto the expansive hub of glitzy Leicester Square.
