Description: Rick's Restaurant is Tooting's first and only Modern British and Modern European restaurant. Owned by Rick Gibbs, former Head Chef at the Chelsea Arts Club, this cosy and intimate dining establishment, previously known as Rick's Cafe, prides itself with the Tooting Community Good Neighbour Award and the Taste of Tooting Best Restaurant Award. With a daily changeable menu and open plan kitchen it is a real treat for any fan of Modern Spanish, English, French, Italian, Mediterranean and other Modern European cuisines, as well as for those seeking a classic British brunch, lunch or dinner. Whether it's been for business or pleasure, adults or children, vegetarian or meat lovers, Rick's unpretentious yet utterly delicious cooking has brought a fresh and unique eating out experience to the area, receiving the highest praise from critics and customers alike. As Rick uses only the freshest produce the only thing in his freezer is ice cream. Naturally, the lunch and dinner menus change daily, reflecting what is in season and what has just come off the boat or is locally available. However, old favourites like Rump or Rib-Eye Steak with hand-cut Chips & Chilli Jam and Sticky Toffee Pudding loyally remain. Favourite with diners are the artisan produced Spanish hams, French cheeses, Irish oysters, Shetland mussels, Crème brûlée and other homemade desserts. The Wine List boasts a great selection of Spanish wines with splashes of French, Italian, South African and South American at prices that won't break the bank.Eating at Rick’s Restaurant is like being a guest in Rick’s own home. He loves to be hands-on in the restaurant and will always take the time to talk to his guests, inviting them into the kitchen or sitting with them at their table to have a glass of wine or two. Essentially, Rick’s Restaurant provides comfort food with substance and intelligence without frills.

The menu choices change frequently at Rick's, and every time I've been I've had a delicious meal. It's a small, friendly restaurant with lovely staff and excellent value for money.

In quite a few blogs/magazine/online articles, Rick's is lauded as the place to go. It was ok- we all had steak. The meat was a decent cut, and it was cooked reasonably well. I just found the whole place lacking in atmosphere considering its not a particularly big place, and left wondering what all the fuss is about...

Having read some favourable reviews I arranged to meet a friend there for lunch. As their website clearly states they are open for lunch 12-3pm Tues-Fri, on arrival we were astounded to find it was not open. On phoning their number my friend was curtly told they they don't do weekday lunches any more - and no apology. So a... More

Have eaten in Rick's many times over the last four years and have always had a great experience. Some reviews have mentioned substandard service, but I have never experienced it. The menu is always changing depending on what is in season, so there's always something new to try, they have an excellent selection of wine and considering the quality of... More

Went for dinner; arrived at seven but ate much later. Customers arriving after us received meals before us. Had to go and ask for pepper and the man was rude and told me to wait- the woman then gave me a crappy plastic pepper such as one buys in a supermarket- it wasn't even clean. Then a couple arrived who... More

It's a nice little cafe/restaurant. We were there for Sunday breakfast. It was very tasty. It's always great to see a person actually making the food. I would point out that it would be really good if they could introduce table cafetieres for the coffee and bigger mugs for the tea. As it was the drinks were comparatively, and un-necessarily,... I have been to Rick's twice now. On both occasions I've had a similar experience: good, tasty food, but distant and inattentive service. The brunch menu is delicious and varied, especially on Sundays, and the evening menu offers good quality European food. But service is extremely lacking - both times we had to wait a disproportionately long time for food... More

We have been to Rick's four times in the hope that it would improve, however, often we are greeted(!) with no sign of acknowledgement. The food can be good but very limited vegetarian options and they are over priced. The service is generally cold and distant. The seating is cramped and it is not possible to have a private conversation.

Goodness, this delightful small restaurant seems to attract wildly different reviews! In a most inauspicious street, it looked neat and smart on the outside. Perhaps lunch, even on a Sunday, is the best bet? There were 3 of us, 3 generations, and we had a lovely time. The maitre'd (?Rick) was friendly and helpful, only 6 others lunching. The squid...
