With a daily changeable menu and open plan kitchen it is a real treat for any fan of Modern Spanish, English, French, Italian, Mediterranean and other Modern European cuisines, as well as for those seeking a classic British brunch, lunch or dinner. Whether it's been for business or pleasure, adults or children, vegetarian or meat lovers, Rick's unpretentious yet utterly delicious cooking has brought a fresh and unique eating out experience to the area, receiving the highest praise from critics and customers alike. As Rick uses only the freshest produce the only thing in his freezer is ice cream. Naturally, the lunch and dinner menus change daily, reflecting what is in season and what has just come off the boat or is locally available. However, old favourites like Rump or Rib-Eye Steak with hand-cut Chips & Chilli Jam and Sticky Toffee Pudding loyally remain. Favourite with diners are the artisan produced Spanish hams, French cheeses, Irish oysters, Shetland mussels, Crème brûlée and other homemade desserts. The Wine List boasts a great selection of Spanish wines with splashes of French, Italian, South African and South American at prices that won't break the bank.Eating at Rick’s Restaurant is like being a guest in Rick’s own home. He loves to be hands-on in the restaurant and will always take the time to talk to his guests, inviting them into the kitchen or sitting with them at their table to have a glass of wine or two. Essentially, Rick’s Restaurant provides comfort food with substance and intelligence without frills.

We have been to Rick's four times in the hope that it would improve, however, often we are greeted(!) with no sign of acknowledgement. The food can be good but very limited vegetarian options and they are over priced. The service is generally cold and distant. The seating is cramped and it is not possible to have a private conversation.

Goodness, this delightful small restaurant seems to attract wildly different reviews! In a most inauspicious street, it looked neat and smart on the outside. Perhaps lunch, even on a Sunday, is the best bet? There were 3 of us, 3 generations, and we had a lovely time. The maitre'd (?Rick) was friendly and helpful, only 6 others lunching. The squid... We've been here twice. The first time we put the poor service and inconsistent food down to bad luck. Our second experience, however, made clear that unless you were best friends with Rick poor service and food was the standard to expect. Rick himself was obnoxious and rude and, if this weren't enough to ruin the evening, and on the... More

I just wanted to write a quick review after our lovely dinner last night at Rick's. We had been recommended this a great local restaurant and we went for our anniversary dinner and loved it. Also once we started mentioning Rick's to our other friends they had all been and had nothing but nice things to say. We also bumped... More

I had booked a table for 2 at this local restaurant after having walked past many times, and heard good things about the food. When my husband and I arrived promptly we were shown to the tiniest, most cramped table behind the front door, and squashed next to another large table. The restaurant wasn't full, so I asked politely if... More

I'm very local to Ricks so I decided I was going to have my 30th there. As every other time I've visited has been great. It just so happens that Tuesday is steak night there. So my party of 9 was super happy. The staff here are wonderful and really looked after my table. After our awesome meal they brought... More

Had a duck confit: really tasty and well presented. In desert, my friend and I shared a toffee cake. Both of us enjoyed it. Go for it! About the service, we really had fun! Good piece of advice as well! Ask the owner his recommendations for you.

First disappointment ...no lager..second didn't have the wine we wanted. Ordered sparkling water jug of flat water served. Asked 3 times for tap water.....still waiting for one of the glasses... Portions were small...pork belly dry...steak was tough looked and tasted like rump...not sirloin. Service poor. It's a cheek adding service charge...not worth the money.won't be returning.
