This restaurant is about as far away from a swish city eatery as you can imagine, however if you fancy something completely different, then this is the place for you! My friends and I booked a table for a busy Saturday evening. The decor is very old-fashioned and traditional - lots of wood. On our visit, the staff were very... More

Looked a fairly average sort of eating place, nice old style interior and reasonable menu, I ordered the wine and grumbled to the waitress (not her fault) it was a bit cold for red wine the manageress has astutely spotted this and hey presto the wine was instantly changed for a bottle at the correct temperature. I thought hope the... More

I booked this for my husbands birthday after checking it out on Trip Advisor. I must say we weren't that impressed. The service was okay but nothing special and the food was the same. The crème brulee was quite expensive and not that brilliant It was different but I wouldn't say outstanding which was a shame. It might be better... More

Pros: The food is beautifully presented, the service good and the food definitely restraunt quality English food. Cons: A bigger menu and no discretionary service charge (I don't lilke it on principal) would have made this perfect.

We did not eat at this lovely pub but marveled and reveled with their selection of Belgian ales. Only two casks on hand but the bottle selection is, while not very large, is thoughtfully balanced with a nice variety of Belgians. We enjoyed sitting at the bar with the other regulars and felt welcomed by them and the staff. We... More

Arrived with friends on Friday evening it was quite busy managed to get a large table in the corner. Staff attentive, food arrived promptly, ordered 3 steaks with homemade chip, a rarity these days, also ordered beef Wellington. We could not fault the food it was lovely well cooked and tasty. Deserts were extremely tasty. Would return.

We chose The English Restaurant for an old colleagues' meeting, something we do a few times a year. It wasn't crowded on the Wednesday lunchtime, perhaps the rush had been and gone. We were seated in a booth and our order was taken efficiently. All three of us chose the Duck Breast and Duck Liver special starter, which was tasty.... More

Just outside Spitalfields Market this rare time warp sits. It's like a trip back in time. Good quality food at honest prices. Service is wonderful, by staff that care. We went there Saturday 14th March at lunchtime. Didn't have to book but I would suggest you book for an evening. I choose the mussels and my partner had the calves... More

This is the first time I've visited this pub and I really liked it. The Sunday roast was very tasty. And the fish and chips looked very good. The service was excellent and the atmosphere very nice. I found it very expensive. But I would still go back there of I'm in the area.

Staying in Spitalfields

Neighborhood Profile
Spitalfields
For a glimpse of Georgian and Victorian London at its most pristine, or a peek into what's apt to be the next big global trend, the hipster zone of Spitalfields can provide hours of amazement. Around the clock, this is a haven for early morning bargain hunters sizing up its street markets, foodie foragers throughout the day, or late night revelers hitting some of London's most popular bars and clubs.

Wedged between the business-minded City of London, expressly trendy Shoreditch, and zestful Whitechapel, the lines between traditional and contemporary beautifully blur in this historic East End nexus.
