Some places are a great experience and this is one of them. It is a bar and restaurant in a very traditional English style. We only went in for a drink but decided we could not resist the food. It is high end traditional English cooking to a superb standard. I had six Native oysters - really wonderful. I then... More

The character and atmosphere of this restaurant is what make it special. The menu is classic English, wine is French and the cheery staff are Australian. All in all a good mix. The curtained off booths are good for a private dining experience. Air con could be better.

We met for lunch on a Friday as a group of 4. The menu is a nice size without being overly extensive. There is enough choice between meat or fish and the price s good considering the quality of food and the central London location. Most welcome was the very friendly and attentive service we received from the 2 women... More

There is a very Parisian feel to this place, despite the name. Imagine you are in a French restaurant that is doing its own version of traditional English dishes - and a few more besides. Today's special is beer battered haddock and chips. No mushy peas though. It comes with salad leaves. I wonder what my old grandad in Bolton... More

We stopped into this quite British Restaurant/Bar as part of an East End food walking tour. We tried the bread pudding and got to look around at the restaurant. This is a really cool spot and very original. Inside is full of wood, pews and booths. Its adorable, quiet, and a dining experience that's unique and provides some privacy will... More

This charming restaurant and bar has atmosphere and great food. The wood panelling adds atmosphere and the cosy booths were popular with couples but although it is dark wood throughout it has lots of light from the frontage so is not in the slightest gloomy. Good brisk service and really good food. I had the lunch special which was excellent... More

We had a great dinner experience at the English restaurant. The food was delicious, the wine was tasty and the service was very friendly. The lamb shank was served with delicious vegetables and was truly incredible! If you go, I would recommend to leave some space for desert: the bread and butter pudding especially!

The scallops are always a good way of testing a restaurants efficiency . Mine were great followed by a very nice steak. Expect to pay London prices but it is great if catching a train from Liverpool St which is why we will definitely be going back. Good selection of Belgian beers and good service.

Staying in Spitalfields

Neighborhood Profile
Spitalfields
For a glimpse of Georgian and Victorian London at its most pristine, or a peek into what's apt to be the next big global trend, the hipster zone of Spitalfields can provide hours of amazement. Around the clock, this is a haven for early morning bargain hunters sizing up its street markets, foodie foragers throughout the day, or late night revelers hitting some of London's most popular bars and clubs.

Wedged between the business-minded City of London, expressly trendy Shoreditch, and zestful Whitechapel, the lines between traditional and contemporary beautifully blur in this historic East End nexus.
