Came after work with a friend. The restaurant is located just off spitalfields market. Interior is very 'old english'. - wooden panelling and floors, with wooden booths. We both enjoyed our food. The set menu with 3 courses is about £30. The house White was £4 a glass. The service was excellent, very attentive. We stayed for about 4 hours... More

The food was amazing and fresh and the restaurant has a great old fashioned vib. I visited on my own due to being away for work and I was made to feel very welcome. All I need to say is that I will be back!

When I ventured in to The English Restaurant, next to Spitalfield Market, the visual appeal was immediate, a rare treat of comfortable and traditional craftmanship in keeping with the historic setting and historic building. The staff's warm welcome, and subsequently their friendly service, made me feel at home. The proprietors have created a unique setting and are, apparently, the sole... More

I have been to this restaurant for both breakfast and dinner and enjoyed the experience on both occasions. We sat in the wooden booths which had an intimate feel and the food was very good. Staff were very friendly and knowledgeable.

Had dinner here recently. Good quality and nicely served. Interesting cask ale to drink. Pleasant staff in a quirky building. Went back for breakfast next morning and were very happy with choice and quality. Lovely bloomer bread and sausages.

We went for breakfast and were disappointed. The service was desultory and many of the food items were warm rather than hot. If the server had asked us how our food was we would have told them, so we will let this review do the job. There are plenty of other places in the area.

The food was good, not great. They did make an effort to cook my steak as asked (medium, pink with no blood) and got it spot on but the rib eye steak was not exactly melt in the mouth by any extent. The chips were far too hard (perhaps reheated), had little flavour and if I was going to be... More

I've been here the The English Restaurant a few times, always without a reservation, and it has been consistently terrific food. It's the stuff I imagine Jane Grigson might cook at home: seasonal asparagus with poached egg and hollandaise, mackerel pate, rabbit taurine, authentic English cooking always well done. However, it has a far more impressive wine cellar and it's... More
