A missed opportunity

Always seems the same with Cafe Rouge chain...they do French food just about adequately but your expectation is always for better French food....always seems to let down on this. I had sea bass, which should be knock out but was just fairly ordinary; it would have been better with crispy skin on... read more

My family of 4 visited with some friends from Highgate over Easter. Never been to this chain before but pleasantly surprised. My family all chose the burgers and I chose the Nicoise Salad with Tuna, it was delicious. I was amazed at the portion size when the food came, my 2 teenage sons were overjoyed with their burger and an... More

We used to come here regularly attracted by good quality food and lovely service. The service now as lovely as ever but sadly the food is no longer edible. Who wants a salad tasting of cod liver oil or a beef Bourgonion full of grizzle accompanied by large chunks of uncooked carrots, For the first time i left the restaurant... More

We had a lovely meal and a nice bottle of red here. The sharing starter of breads, pate, tapenade, humus etc was very rustic and satisfying. The wine was good and the main course (duck) was delicious. All the staff were all very friendly and helpful.

I fear that Café Rouge has fallen into a rather brown mire....... The decor is looking rather shabby and unloved. The crockery grubby. A teapot with no lid - the waitress did apologise & pointed to the saucer she had used as a makeshift lid. All very resourceful. However, the tea was luke warm and weak. We waited 35 minutes... It was clear about half of the staff had turned up.. confusion reigned. The cafe was grubby . Occasionally a member of staff wandered in from the direction of the toilets carrying some food on a plate.. no trays were available for the waiting staff and no teapot lids. After half an hour we had managed to secure a luke... More

So it was Halloween Friday night, the local kids had got their sweets, one of my daughters was on a sleep over so my wife and elder daughter decided on a local supper. I reserved a table at the normally dependable Cafe Rouge. We arrived into a busy restaurant seemingly a bit of a surprise to the sparse staff, who... More

Went for Saturday lunch with friends, little annoyed that we wasn't able to use discount voucher. Service was polite and prompt. Burgers were very good, but unfortunately there wasn't any atmosphere in the restaurant, but it was clean and service was ok.

Have eaten here many times over the years and has always been a good place to pop into whether for lunch or breakfast. Staff always friendly and food tasty and very reasonably priced. Only thing is I don't think the menu has changed at all since I first went there as a child probably around 15 years ago! Also the... More

Good place for a business lunch etc. Warm service and selection of many classic meals & wines. Booking probably not needed. This is a comfortable local venue for all times of the day. Recommended on that basis
