DINNER BEFORE THE BALLET

You know what you are going to get, after all it is a chain -not a fine dining experience. But when you are going to the Greenwich Playhouse to watch a direct feed from the Royal Opera House -do you need fine dining - No. But you need good honest food at a correct price with a modicum of service.We... read more

We went there for a surprise breakfast for our mum's birthday. We made a cake and took it in with us. They lit the candles and all the waiters and waitress' sang happy birthday when they brought the cake out, which was a nice touch. The food was good and very reasonably priced.

Unfortunately on the evening we visited it was very busy. It did not take too long to be seated, however this is because the restaurant has crammed many tables very close together. I do not enjoy spending the evening listening to the couple next to us, which could not be helped as we were so close. The food was okay... More

I suppose this is just about OK - the staff are pleasant, the food acceptable. But I find the menu rather tired. If you are going to serve chips, they have to be great, and the skinny ones served here are neither hot nor crisp. The salads are acceptable, but the dressings aren't spectacular - I do think that if... More

If you stay at the IBIS hotel Greenwich you have your breakfast in Cafe Rouge which is a great way to start the day.

Visited this restaurant on a very busy Saturday night, service was slow, but I think it was understaffed, and the staff they did have we're trying their best, even though they were run off their feet. However, the food was very disappointing. It was almost like everything came out of packets and was just heated up on site. (There was... More

Booked into the Ibis hotel and the cafe rouge is attached to the business. I was a lone diner and ordered for starters Camembert with Cranberry Sauce. When arrived it looked very good. There were 3 decent size pieces of Camambert but they were Luke warm. The Cranberry sauce was more of a watered down jus. Could have done with... More

while in London on a mid term break recently we went on a cruise on the Thames. It was a lovely day and we really enjoyed the cruise. We stopped off in Greenwich for a stroll around Greenwich and came across a lovely cafe called Cafe Rouge. We decided to go in for something to eat. It was a very... More

Located in the heart of Grenwich with an excellent street view. The tariff is very reasonable. However the food quality is average and dissapointing.

This cafe is very well located in the heart of Greenwich, just by Ibis hotel. As I stayed at Ibis for 6 days, Cafe Rouge was the most convenient place to have breakfast. And it was a great choice: they offer the English and the Continental breakfast, both delicious, although the Continental style one is more sensible, for the English... More

Neighborhood Profile
Greenwich
Greenwich Mean Time starts here, so to speak, as the very concept of global time was established at Royal Observatory, just one of several buildings of architectural interest in Greenwich. Indeed, the whole of Greenwich's historic town center, its Royal Park and a number of related buildings (and one world famous ship, the Cutty Sark) make up the UNESCO World Heritage site known as Maritime Greenwich. Today a laser beam is shot out across the night sky from the Observatory to mark the location of the Prime Meridian. Other bold (some say brash) 21st century additions to the area include landmarks such as The O2 entertainment complex (previously known as the Millennium Dome) and the Air Line cable cars, which offer scenic transport across the Thames between North Greenwich and the Royal Docks.
