Description: Barcelona has 'aficion' - that means passion and knowledge and, in bullfighting, what makes you get into the ring with an irritable herbivore. The space that houses this Barcelona, the third in a continuing series, was once a pharmacy. It still has its funky antique dispensing cabinets, but is also kitted out in Barcelona's inimitable sunny style, including tiling, vivid hues, and the trademark lizard, inspired by a Gaudi mad masterpiece. The Conservatory areas are extremely popular, but then so is the whole restaurant. As it's a short five minute walk from Dulwich village, it's full of professional types, but it's located in a residential area which brings in scads of happy families reliving the cuisine of their latest Spanish holiday. Hora Loca is a madly good deal - we have our own little aficion for the jugs of sangria. The tapas include many familiar favourites as well as specialities from all the regions of Spain. Try dishes like the Andalusian pork and bean stew with chorizo, Galician-style octopus, and Catalan grilled peppers, onions and aubergines. The Spanish wine list is a treat

The variety of tapas dishes available is brilliant and everything we ordered tasted as if it had been home cooked. Delicious! The wine list is excellent value - and the food menu too - with a broad choice available. Would recommend the Black Pudding and Pigs Cheeks. Overall, nice atmosphere, great food, excellent value.

Great décor and layout, this place looked full of potential. The food, however, offered a different story. The tapas was hit and miss, some dishes were ok and others simply didn't taste good. We ordered the house red Rioja, which seemed like it had come straight out of the fridge - ice cold! Unusual for an Andalucian restaurant that promises an... More

We have eaten at the Barcelona many times, and have always had delicious food. The service, while not always the speediest in the world, is always friendly and personal. The 2 regular waiters there are unfailingly friendly and helpful. We went the day before NYE and were made to feel most welcome and valued. As for authenticity - you could... More

Went for New years eve and what a disappointment. I had prebooked the set nye menu, which included a glass of cava on entry, that didn't happen, the man got confused and gave us the a la carte menu and struggled to understand our requests. Myself and partner waited about 30minutes just to get a drink and that was only... More

We chose to celebrate New Year's Eve at Barcelona because, based on our previous visits, the food is excellent and the service good. As well as this, the restaurant, with its Gaudi tiles on the walls, has a nice ambience. Unfortunately this was an experience we want to forget. The tapas dishes were hit and miss. The meat balls were... More

We stopped in for Christmas Eve dinner for my traditional paella dinner. The restaurant is moderate size, quaint, a bit cold and drafty, a touch uncomfortable, but I loved it. There is something authentic about it, something special about it. The only problem is the lack of parking.

Some tasty dishes and a cut above your average tapas bar. We had a good suggested menu from the staff and plates were emptied pretty quickly. Not a bad place to pop into.

We chose to sit outside and it was very pleasant. Our waitress, Andrea, was lovely and really ensured that we enjoyed our lunch. She was very friendly and attentive. It wasn't particularly cheap but it was really tasty and we could not finish what we had ordered. We were the only ones dining and this is a great pity as... More

Average tapas, bad service. We ate piella out of a hot pan...not the best. The service was poor and the head waiter almost had a fight with another customer whilst we were paying our bill. The only good thing is the decor!

I was taken to this local tapas bar by a friend who had been before. It is certainly a good place to enjoy a reasonably cheap eat if you live in Dulwich. The decor is pleasing and there is outdoor space if the weather is nice. It is the Horniman Museum end of Lordship Lane so, if going by bus,... More
