Visited this pub on a couple of occasions and each time I was told that "there isn't anything dark on the pumps." I know it's luck of the draw that when you go that sometimes you don't get what you would like but given the multiple hand pumps, it wouldn't be so hard to have a permanent dark beer on... More

Hi Graham, Thank you for your review. It sounds like you have been rather unlucky. We generally have a some dark cask ale on 7 days a week. Stout or Smoked Porter are our two most popular and are normally seen everyday. We also have a particularly delicious Dunkel Lager brewed by Freedom Brewery. Look out for Freedom Organic Dark.... Great little traditional pub with their own ales. Reasonable prices, great helpful service, definitely worth a visit.

While in Liverpool for a conference (ESB2014) I ended up in this pub, twice. First, the beer is excellent, several home brewed casks. I highly recommend the Amarillo, despite the texas name, as a nice hoppy unfiltered beer. Great on a warm sunny Liverpool day--seriously, the weather was great. The home brew cider was delicious as well. Second, and more... More

a basic pub, how most pubs used to be years ago. Its a brew pub and the beer is brewed on the premises. and cheap. dont expect carpets and juke box, but the beer is very good. try one or two different ones.

From the outside it's a sad looking place in a near derelict part of town and I suspect a lot of people pass it quickly by, which in my view is a mistake. Back in the day I would guess this was a thriving part of the city and the pub was heaving with sailors and dock workers - how... More

Great beer at exceptional prices - as in low not high Didn't see any food so didn't try any Even the slightly sticky table surface spoke of a time quickly disappearing when we were perahps not as paranoid about hygiene as some seem to be. do visit and support this place - or make it your local if you can

Second time visit to this now established pub on the Liverpool real ale scene and it just gets better. The Summer Ale is seriously quaffable on a lovely warm summer day or night and the other beers are excellent as well.As other reviews quite rightly state, the staff are friendly and welcoming. So with great staff and great beer, you will not be able... This is a very friendly pub. We arrived and found the staff chatty and friendly. The customers were the same. It was rather like visiting your own local where you knew everyone. They brew beer in the cellar. We tried most and loved them all. It is a must for our next visit to Liverpool.

Went for the beer not the food and we were not disappointed. The Summer Ale was particularly good and we sat outside in the sun people watching. Staff were excellent being both friendly and efficient. A random act of kindness by one of the staff who had spotted a customer was going to leave his pint, took it away and... More
