We visited here on a Saturday night, and had a very nice evening. There's an interesting wine list and an interesting menu. Scallops were lovely, as was the mackerel starter. Lamb main was yummy. I had sea bass, which was also really good. Only unsuccessful item was a weird sort of vegetable hash thing (bit like a potato cake served... More

A really nice atmosphere, and interesting menu. We were 7 and it was Saturday night but more than 1 hour for main course and then served by instalments really spoiled the evening. There were apologies but for the hour + we were waiting the staff conspicuously avoided all eye contact and no updates or even nibbles to keep the pangs... More

My husband and I had a most fantastic evening at this restaurant last night. We both had the ham hock and the breaded egg to start with which was excellent. The ham was delicious and the egg was soft and runny. I had the pork dish for my main and my husband had the lamb, both were really sublime. Unfortunately... More

My partner and I had a great evening at the Side Door. She started with the squid and I had the chicken livers, and both were very well presented and full of flavour. We both then had the steak and again this was of very good quality meal, and the service was excellent. The restaurant is small and cosy and... More

Popped in here on Saturday, we where in a rush as we had an appointment to go to. We told the lovely lady that served us & she said it wouldnt be a problem.....so we ordered our food! The good came prompt & fresh, we enjoyed it all!! Great £5 lunch menu, price doesn't compromise the quality of the food... More

We came here for lunch on a shopping trip and LOVED it! The restaurant itself is really cute, and the staff were very friendly and welcoming. We each ordered something off the £5 lunch menu - two burgers and one fish and chips. The chips were amazing, you could tell they were home made. The burger bun, a home-made ciabatta,... More

Haven't been here for a while but always liked the venue, despite one disappointing meal ages ago. Had great sea food starters - the scallops very good. We also had a veggie main, lamb cutlets and steaks. All cooked perfectly. Wine good too. Service spot on.

This is where to go if you want a quiet lunch, no blaring music, good choice of food with specials and a decent wine list. Small place but all the better for it. Friendly staff and suggest booking ahead.

Visited in October 2012, back in April 2013. Cosy venue (sit upstairs). Pre-theatre is excellent value. Wirral sausage and spaghetti starter was almost a main ! Smoked haddock chowder was a bit watery and loaded with (too much) sweetcorn. Cod main was cooked to perfection. Choc and apricot tart was perfect. The pineapple tart tartin didnt quite work - something... More

Pre theatre dinner excellent value. All 3 courses were delicious , the rump steak was cooked to perfection and not an ounce of grizzle. The portions were generous - Sticky toffee pudding was to die for. Never said that about a dessert before. House red was very nice. Service and staff very good. Would certainly go back.
