The ambience here worth the trip just to sit and have a pint or two. This is an old world pub/restaurant. Stained glass windows light up the carved wooden bars. Ornate wooden columns rise to support the patterned ceiling. Internal windows are etched in a variety of heraldic patterns. These... read more

After a long day spent in Liverpool's two beautiful cathedrals, my sister Diane and I were ready for some refreshments and a nice meal. My sister was visiting me from America and wanted to have an authentic Pub meal and the pub experience, so what more perfect place the the glorious Philharmonic Pub. What a charming, delightful feast for the... More

Great selection of pale ales - I was easily tempted away from my 'go to' Guinness! The food selection was very good too though our original requests had sold out. I proceeded to go for a cod and chips and it was delicious - though to be honest probably on the small side. As far as atmosphere goes though, it... More

Dunno what it is about the Philharmonic pub. In theory it should tick all the boxes but in practise it is not a pub I would go into for more than one drink. Yes the architecture is fab, yes they serve well kept beer but for what ever reason it just doesn’t float my boat. I don’t think it has... More

If i'm not wrong, this is inside the Liverpool Church, a nice layout for may be a 3 or 5 course meals. offers great views around and always an reason to remember that a meal was at an historic venue.

Avoid for food!!!! Musty smell, decor needs updating or at least a deep clean. The service was horrendous the waitress and waiter On shift today were so unprofessional. They talked loudly amongst themselves and lacked any manners. Was asked to move my chair in very blunt way even though they had sat us at the table. Slow to take order.... More

A great place to stop between a tour of the two cathedrals. It is like walking back in time. We only had a coffee, but the decor is wonderful. How wealthy men spent their leisure time. The atmosphere of a private gentleman's club remains, along with some amazing pictures and artifacts. Worth a stop.

Customer service very poor. Staff not focused on waiting customers. Long wait to get served. Toilets very smelly Food - very poor portion size despite "go large option". Mushy peas portion very small - asked for extra and the extra portion arrived after I had finished my meal. At one point water started leaking from the ceiling. I told the... More

We'd heard good things about this pub from our B&B owner and generally on the grapevine. Apparently, John Lennon has been quoted as saying that one downside of the price of fame was that he could no longer call into "The Phil" for a drink, or words to that effect. The men's urinals still have the original Victorian tiles and... More
