This pub must be visited on any trip to Liverpool! Located in the middle of Hope Street, The Philharmonic is well over 100 years old and many of its original features are intact - From the Art Deco wrought iron and copper entrance gates (which, admittedly, I found a little gaudy - but never mind) to the most extraordinary interiors... Our first visit here for a meal and it was very enjoyable. We wanted to visit for the Sunday roast but later in the evening so I phoned a few days in advance to book, the guy I spoke to was very helpful and as he said the beef had often ran by the early afternoon he said he would... More

Probably the best city pub in the world. Revel in the exuberant architecture and decoration, not missing the only Grade 1 listed toilet in the UK, whilst sampling some of the finest beverages known to man. Food's not bad, either.

The dining room was closed for a private function so we had a snack in the main pub room. I had the 3 beers for £3 which were really good to help wash down a lovely dish of nachos. The interior of the pub is like stepping back in time with all the wood panelling and mosaic tiling etc. It... More

Great surroundings, great history, bad service. We were told food would be served in 20 mins, even though the place had been open for hours, waitress didn't come near us again, no toilet rolls in ladies either. Had a pint and left, place looks amazing though, waitress seems to think that's enough.

Living in Edinburgh, I am used to some pretty amazing Victorian pubs (Café Royal, Abbotsford, Guildford Arms), but The Phil is something else! Don't know where to begin. The detail is fabulous - even the mosaic around the base of the bar is beautiful. Main large lounge has to be seen to be believed and the gent's toilets take your... More

We had the sausage and mash... Normally i have breakfast and dinner on a Sunday, no lunch, but we came there for a greasy lunch, and it was exactly what we needed. Polite service, clean, yummy food.

Popped in here for a couple of wines with my partner whilst on a day trip to Liverpool. The interior of this building is stunning, all original Victorian features that will make you feel like you've gone back in time. Knowing that John Lennon used to drink in here too made it feel extra special for me as a huge... More

We saw this place whilst on a bus trip and thought it looked so pretty that we wanted to see inside. We were not disappointed, the interior is just gorgeous with an old world charm to it. We loved it so much we ate their both the nights we were in Liverpool. Charlee and Lucy were the waitresses and they... More

We had seen the Philharmonic on the tv and really wanted to visit. We were not disappointed. We had a meal on a Friday evening and really enjoyed it. The waitress couldn't have been more helpful. It was busy in the bar and had a great atmosphere. The decor is stunning.
