Saw this from the open top bus and came round again. Firstly it's worth visiting for the decor, it feels like a proper gentleman's club in the main room. Nice range of real ales on tap, plus the usual bar stuff. The dining room I was in upstairs whilst very pleasant was a bit of an anticlimax though would have... More

Do both cathedrals in Liverpool and between the two have a pint in the 'Phil'. It has one of the most stunning pub interiors anywhere in the UK: wood panelling and great tiles. The gents toilet is a riot of decoration and is SO famous for it that ladies are allowed in to view - by arrangement! Pity the same... More

This is a Nicholsons Chain Pub, so the menu is what you get at Nicholsons Pubs. I think it counts as a serviceable pub menu with some items that are a bit different - the Iberian Pig Burger is definitely one of my favourites. But this is not fine dining, but you get a good meal, and many good drinking... More

The best thing about this pub is the gents toilets. Beer poor quality and food average. Plenty of better places to go nearby. Very disappointing.

Walked a long way to find this place on a recommendation. The building is an amazing slice of history, so many original features. A good selection of real ales, perhaps we just didn't find them but Liverpool doesn't seem to have many real ale pubs. We had Sunday lunch here and I wasn't really that impressed, very average. As we... More

The food was of barely average quality and had a definite microwave look about it although it may have been left in the oven too long. The menu showed crispy baby potatoes but we were served what appeared to be reheated wedges. No explanation was given. A pretty disappointing experience, although the beer was good. Won't be going back anytime... More

Visited this restaurant on Saturday 21st June with two friends and have a brilliant experience. Service was friendly and professional with the waitreses being very helpful and accommodating. As we have come to expect the food was really good and excellent value for money. The location is ideally situated for anyone wanting a meal before attending one of the theatre... More

Fine old decor, well preserved. Also good grub and decent beer, a short walk from the Metropolitan Cathedral and not too far from the Anglican one (nowhere near the location given on the TripAdvisor map, BTW).

My other half is a real ale freak and wanted to visit this old Victorian pub, what a gem, its interior décor is fantastic, the stained glass and original tiling. Well worth a visit just to see this alone
