Menu looks good on paper . . .

Certainly a great location at the top of Steep Hill but the food was very ordinary and the much mentioned "atmosphere" was sadly lacking. Admittedly it was a Thursday evening with few diners but the pub was cold. The menu looked very promising but we were underwhelmed by the food. My sea bass was... read more

Beautiful food, we both had the cheese souffle, and the main was delicious and very well presented. However, paid over £10 for a glass of wine and a VAT, so I think they're basing prices on the fact they're very central.

This was our first visit to these premises and it was a thoroughly enjoyable experience. I had the wild mushroom, Stilton, garlic toasted brioche as a starter and it was truly filling and very tasty. One of the best starters that I've had. My main was the 8oz Ribeye which was accompanied by triple cooked fries, green beans and a... More

Visited Wig and Mitre on Saturday evening for a late Mother's day treat. The lady behind the bar was helpful with the menu and we had lots to choose from. I chose the monkfish cheeks option albeit with gruyere mash and green beans rather than couscous as on menu. My husband had chicken strips (to die for) and son a... More

Came here on a quiet Sunday evening for an impromptu wedding anniversary dinner and would highly recommend. Friendly and efficient welcome from the minute we walked in ordering drinks at the bar, and then shared the dressed crab for starters which was one of the specials of the day and was absolutely delicious, fresh and uncomplicated, crab at its best.... Went here a few times over the years and have always enjoy their food. Very good menu, not complicated and certainly very enjoyable. Their steaks are very good and succulent. Friendly staff always wanting to please.

Stunning location. This very old hostilery was charming and quirky. great choice of wine they had stopped serving lunch.1430. We sat upstairs and at 6'1" I strugled to get back downstairs. Needs freshening up.

My friends and I enjoyed a superb three course meal and a glass of wine courtesy of a Travelzoo offer. That's the way to fill a restaurant on a cold and wet February evening. The food was lovely and the service attentive. We were able to choose anything from the main menu or the specials board. I would just ask... More
