Birthday bash

Very cosy atmosphere up stairs. Service very good, food excellent. I was disappointed with standard of glasses and plates, I witnessed chips in both, however, when mentioned to staff, this was addressed immediately and an apology given. Would highly recommend and will eat there again.

I regularly eat here and at another of their pubs and have always been satisfied with the quality and service. This visit was an exception, and I hope not to be repeated experience. Whilst not wanting to be ageist, there seemed to be no staff over the age of 19 in the whole place. Sometimes a little seniority helps with... More

Pleasant enough meal. I sometimes eat at The Caunton Beck, a sister pub to the W&M, and both rank as slightly better than average. But both establishments look a little tired and could do with a smartening up. I ate wild mushroom starter with creamy sauce with Stilton followed by fish & chips (plaice tempura was how it was described... More

14 of us went to the wig and. Mitre Lincoln last night for a 70th birthday meal in their room upstairs. The room was lovely just what we wanted for a small private party. The food was also lovely as was the service. The whole night was a great success and the deal they gave us was very good.Everybody enjoyed... More

We've eaten here before and were delighted to find that it's as good as ever. They offer a varied menu with good vegetarian options and some interesting combinations. The service was attentive and friendly. For an atmospheric venue no distance from the city's key hilltop sights this pub is hard to beat.

Went for a family meal. Had it not been for the company, the meal would have been ever worse. I have a severe allergy to mushrooms. Every single other restaurant I have visited is always more than accommodating. Also, it's not like it's an allergy to nuts which are in everything... Except here it would seem. Within 5 minutes of... More

There must be a misunderstanding. All our staff are trained in allergies, if they don't know the answer to a question they know where to go for the necessary information. It is true to say that we do put mushrooms in our base stock, but there are many menu items which do not include jus. On the day of your... More

Certainly a great location at the top of Steep Hill but the food was very ordinary and the much mentioned "atmosphere" was sadly lacking. Admittedly it was a Thursday evening with few diners but the pub was cold. The menu looked very promising but we were underwhelmed by the food. My sea bass was actually a large dollop of wet... Beautiful food, we both had the cheese souffle, and the main was delicious and very well presented. However, paid over £10 for a glass of wine and a VAT, so I think they're basing prices on the fact they're very central.
