We visited here for a mid week meal. It was quite busy but the staff were attentive and the food was promptly served with a smile. The food was good quality and there was a nice selection. Well worth a visit if you are in the area.

We booked ahead here as a large family booking and I in fairness forgot to mention one member of our party was in a wheelchair, when we were shown the table it was in an inaccessible area of the restaurant up some stairs, Now the person who dealt with us , I'm not sure if he was the manager, he... Had Sunday lunch here with an old friend, on 31 August. Usual good food, (high quality pub) but would seriously advise booking at weekends, either go early, or late - it does get crowded, and the notice which tells customers not to park on the road, as there is ample parking there, simply isn't true. We arrived just before noon,... More

Firstly, would be nice to see someone take the time to respond to comments. First visit, food tasted lovely (husband had lamb cutlets) but the rib of beef was mostly fat. I don't mind a little as beef fat is, unfortunately, very tasty but more fat than meat I'm afraid. Still, not put us off and looking forward to trying... More

We visited on a Monday evening and had a choice of the curry night, specials board or a la carte. I went for the curry - as many servings as you wanted for less than £10, well you can't really go wrong. Six different dishes to choose from so plenty of variety. My wife had cod with a cheese sauce... More

Arrived as a large table of 8 adults and 2 children. We were catching up and lost track of time a little but realised it had been 35mins since we had ordered our drinks with nothing materialising and no order taken. We all had carverys. Meat was well cooked and good selection of tasty and hot vegetables. Desserts ordered, bit... More

This is not the first time I've been to The Shires but it's the first time in a long time and as a vegan! The welcome is always warm, the food delicious and so much of it that I could hardly finish what was on my plate!

We ate here recently and had a mixed experience. Two of us had the Carvery which was very good but pricey. Also the Carvery chef had disappeared which led to a queue forming when we went for our meal. The other two had meals from the menu which were Ok but nothing special. Overall the service was pretty good despite... More

First time we had eaten here and we were not disappointed. My partner had the wild mushroom, asparagus and goats cheese tart and said it was one of the starters he had ever had, I had the pate, also good for the main meal I had medallions of pork in a mustard and brandy sauce and the other half had...
