Once again we met old friends at this lovely old pub. We were welcomed by a very cheerful young lady who looked after us admirably. Asked for something not on the lunch menu but she had a word with the kitchen and they obliged. Monk fish was all our choices and as usual we were not disappointed. Lovely way to... More

Went here for a Sunday carvery. It is a fantastic place with lovely grounds in a picturesque village and is very popular. The Sunday lunch choices are a bit limited but they push the carvery which we all had. There were 4 meats (beef, turkey, pork and lamb) which were all well cooked with a great selection of vegetables and... More

There were five of us booked in, a nice table by the window. Great service as soon as we walked in. I had not been here for years and it used to be a nice pub restaurant, but now they have upgraded the menu to a different level all together. I ordered breaded mushrooms, expecting the button mushroom, what I... More

Walked in on Sunday evening without booking, greeted by friendly staff, who found us a table. We had the carvery, which gave the choice of beef, pork, turkey or lamb. The portions were excellent, as was all the veg and different forms of potato that accompanied the meat. Everything cooked to perfection. All the waiting staff were so friendly and... More

Not often a carvery gets top marks but this is one of the best. Great quality meat, fresh veg perfectly cooked, and an all round perfect Sunday lunch. Yes you pay a little more than the average "Toby" but its definitely worth the money. A choice of beef, lamb, pork or turkey, accompanied with a rather large Yorkshire pudding then... More

Table booked for 9 of us to celebrate mother in law's birthday. Been coming here for about 12 years and never been disappointed before! Service tonight was painfully slow, waiting staff were very lacklustre. Our round table was quite small for us to all sit round. Myself and another member of our group found our chairs being constantly knocked by... More

Eight of us visited on a Saturday evening and even though it was busy, overall it was a really nice experience and the food was excellent. This was a real surprise for me as I had not been for several years, and my main course of mixed fish fillets was lovely. The accompanying vegetables and potatoes were cooked to perfection.... More

Visited last night as part of a large group. The Shires is an eating-place rather than a village pub - it has several dining rooms and can get very busy at times - I have been there on numerous occasions over the past few and have always been satisfied with the quality of the food and standard of service -... This was a lovely Sunday lunch, the restuarant was very busy, even so te service was fantastic, we all had the Carvery, thankfully we did not have a starter as we seen theses come out and they were large and we struggled to finish the mains. The food was piping hot, the selection was fantastic and the meat was delious.
