Went to this restaurant for a group meal. Initially it was to be a buffet but because there were too few bookings (20+ were actually there!) we were palmed off with a plated starter (which was quite nice), 3 main courses to share including rice/pancake and bread and a rice pudding for dessert. Very little of the food was to... More

this is one of the best three indian restaurants in leicester (depending on which year etc.)...the main room was full, so we were lead upstairs. the ceiling was damaged, next to us was a party of asian locals (always a good sign) enjoying the intro to the weekend, and we sat with an old motorbike to our right. we had... I would definitely recommend the south Indian cuisine, makes a nice change. I had a vegetarian curry which had really nice flavours but the vegetables seemed like they were out of a frozen microwavable packet. Everyone I was with seemed to enjoy their food more than me so maybe I was unlucky. The service was good and the place packed... More

Another on speck visit to this wonderful place. Today we were lucky to get a table a they were heavily booked, but they did fit us in. The staff were attentive, talking us through the menu. A real feast of flavours was in store and at such a reasonable price. It is a must for lovers of good food. We'll... More

I travel to India very regularly and love to eat authentic Indian food, Kayal in Leicester is as close to real south Indian cuisine that i have tasted outside of india. The atmosphere is warm and friendly and the food is fantastic. The staff are very attentive and knowledgable on the menu. The portions are generous, but not too much... More

Went on basis of tripadvisor reviews and most seem fair. Menu was initially a little confusing as not that familiar with Kerala dishes but got to grips. Excellent masala dosa and uzhunnu vada. Cheera eracha lamb curry wonderful and chicken biryani very good. Not so impressed with kohzi kurumulagu, which was too dominated by black pepper. Polite service which wasn't... More

If you want the standard Indian Fare of Poppodums, Bhaji and then a curry this reatuarant is not really for you. What Kayal offers is Indian dishes you dont see elsewhere - it still offers the poppodums and bhajis but in a slightly different format and they are delicious. Service is good and prices are reasonable but not cheap

They serve a delicious food, not expensive and they are in a central location. There have plenty of vegan options as well. Quite an enjoyable restaurant.

This is now a regular of mine, and the food is wonderful every single time. The cuisine is Keralan, and so not exactly the same fare you get in a "standard" Indian restaurant. I usually have their wonderful dosas (a very thin lentil pancake stuffed with potatoes and peas) but this time went for a selection of lovely starters. I... More
