Excellent food

We came across The Cross Keys on a wet and windy day in August and found it both warm and welcoming with friendly staff. It must be beautiful when the sun is shining as it has a good-sized garden area with what looked to be lovely views. My husband ordered the sausage and mash and declared it to... read more

I went as a guest with two others for lunch with some reluctance as it is jointly owned with the Highland Drove at Great Salkeld at which I was a regular since1966 until driven out last year by the loud 'music'. The Cross Keys is much better and you can eat upstairs in peace though the decor is sparse and... More

This is a really good place to eat or just relax with a drink. Both times I have eaten there the food has been excellent and good value. (The onion rings are a particular favourite of mine.) The view from the balcony terrace is lovely and the setting tranquil

Three of us ate here on a Wednesday night. Ordered the sliders burger, which were all good. Steak which was cooked to perfection and a child's meal. Staff were friendly and helpful. The only bad point was that the drinks seemed a bit expensive

Went for lunch today. The initial greeting was not conducive to good customer service. The lady at the bar said she will take our drinks order before we were shown our table upstairs. We then had to carry our drinks upstairs to the restaurant. The food was very good, however the starters took nearly 45mins to arrive. I had crispy... More

We went on a Tuesday night and the place was really busy, they weren't sure if they could fit us in without a booking. It's not hard to see why - the food is good and it's reasonably priced in a lovely setting with great views out to the hills. We both had the sliders which were really fun -... More

We took a last minute trip to the lake district for a chilli festival and booked a b&b in Penrith. With no plans for dinner we looked up local places and came across The Cross Keys. The reviews were great so decided to try it out, and glad we did. My husband had the fish and chips, and I went... More

Stopped at the Cross Keys on the way home to Glasgow after a weekend at Lytham St. Anne's. Beautiful traditional country pub and restaurant. Came here with my boyfriend and my dad. We had roast beef with Yorkshire pudding and roast potatoes (well, boyfriend had chips, much to the bartender's bemusement). Dad, who was still getting over a huge breakfast,... More
