Excellent home cooked food

Fresh ingredients, expertly cooked dinner for our young family, made very welcome by friendly efficient staff, this is a traditional pub and surroundings reflect this so don't expect posh restaurant, but it is what it is and not pretending to be anything else.

We were having a short break in Penrith for my husband's 50th birthday. We decided to go and see an am dram performance at the playhouse and this hotel was conveniently next door so we decided to eat there. Staff were friendly and helpful. Service was fast and most of the food was good. I love lamb and decided to... More

I wouldn't think of this as a first port of call for a meal but ended up here by default however the meals were excellent, quick service and plentiful. It does need a bit of smartening up like a previous reviewer has commented but the most important thing is the quality of the food and we left satisfied.

We found this pub when looking for somewhere to stop on our way back from Scotland. It's not far off the motorway and was easy to park. Its a traditional pub serving good pub grub. No it's not fine dining but the food was delicious. It had a friendly atmosphere and was fairly busy considering it was a Monday evening.... More

Went here on advice of Travelodge Receptionist. Food was OK and service was fine, not a fine dining experience and the wobbly table seemed a little low, reminded me a bit of a school canteen table. Altogether adequate for the purpose we went for but probably wouldn't return if in town. I was informed by my partner that the ladies... More

Try the snecklifter and ask why it's called that. Food is good at a reasonable price. What's not to like

We had ordered our food and my sons meat in his mixed grill smelt off. We told the waiter who instantly took it away but returned a couple of minutes later with the same dinner back and said that the meat was fine. He and the chef had smelt it and it smelt ok which it did not. He also... More

The pub is a traditional pub however the food could be better. I would like to see home made chips rather than fried frozen chips with little content and more than one choice of Sunday roast. The menu needs to be reduced in size too and a focus on freshly prepared quality food.
