Terrific food

Very welcoming, Food very good. Sweet potato fries are very tasty. Having learned his lesson last time, hubby ordered half a cow pie and it still beat him.

We ate here on a lunchtime, with our 2 children and the dog. Because we had the dog with us we had to sit in the bar area, which was fine with us as we plonked ourselves next to the lovely open fire! The menu had a good amount of choice, especially for my 7 yr old son who has... More

We ordered the warm partridge salad , and the partridge breast was dry and over cooked. The rest of the salad was nice, with bacon, black pudding and some salad. We had the fish and chips- massive portion , but fish tasted bland and chewy. Also ordered the chicken/venison "Englishman s delight" very dry and salty. Peppercorn sauce was nice... More

Visited this restaurant within the pub on a quiet Monday night. Shown to a table in the restaurant quickly. I chose a steak that was cooked to my request. The steak was lovely to be fair, but everything else on the plate let it down. The onion rings were soggy and the advertised homemade chips, were frozen chips. What a... More

Great food. Cow pie is a must for red meat lovers! (but go for the half pie unless you have an enormous appetite this will be enough!) Lovely cosy atmosphere in the two sections they allow dogs. Comfy seating, a 'real' gas fire, (took us a while to figure out it was gas and not coal). Downside, a bit pricey.... More

The food was fabulous, with generois portions at reasonable prices. Great real ales on tap too. It is worth booking in advance as we got the last free table at 6pm when we just turned up.

Visited this pub after a lovely walk and trip around Keswick having been to 4 pubs previous to this one. I felt this was the best of the bunch, lovely interior and atmosphere. Initially ordered (& paid for) a pint and 2 sides for which I had no complaints and was pleasantly served. Decided to finish the night with half... More

We had booked, when we arrived the table was ready, but there was a space in the bar, I just fancied. The team had no issues moved us into the bar, where the children we made most welcome. I'm a caterer who now works for a pun company. I only mention this as I'm used to gimmicks. But the famous... More

My friend and I chose to eat here based on trip advisor reviews. I had the half portion of cow pie which was still huge. Really enjoyed it, but the shortcrust pastry was a little burnt, hence the 4/5 stars. My friend had the chicken in bbq sauce with sweet potato fries and thoroughly enjoyed. Staff friendly and attentive. Would... More
