We were recommended by the owners of our B&B. The food was really tasty and nicely cooked. The staff was really friendly too. We really enjoyed our dinner at the George Hotel restaurant.

We have stayed at The George on many previous occasion and we left this year somewhat deflated. Small issues that could easily be rectified had a big effect on our experience. Breakfast is still an issue (as discussed in last years review) and intimacy and comfort are pushed aside for operational convenience. A little background music would help alleviate the... More

After booking a table for our group - we waited in the smaller area for the rest of our party to arrive. The waiter took our booking, knew our number and what time we wanted to eat. When we went through to sit down we discovered that he'd given 4 of our 8 seats away - but then proceeded to... More

We booked a table at the George for our anniversay meal whilst in Keswick recently and I was dying to try the famous Cow pie. I started with the black pudding tower. A dish consisting of Black pudding, smokey bacon in a light cheese sauce. It was packec with flavour, every mouthfull a delight on the palette, there was so... More

Ate at The George again (twice) during our hols in Keswick. As usual the service was great, the food was excellent and the final bill was surprisingly palatable (for Keswick). We love this place. Although the restaurant menu is the same as the 'pub' menu we prefer to prebook and use the restaurant section, it's much less noisy and the... More

It's a treat to find a full gluten free menu with lots of choice and with portions sizes that don't assume coeliacs eat less than the rest of the world.

I called The George on the off chance they could accommodate us one week before we were visiting Keswick. We visited as a family group of 21 so it was important we sat together, we were seated together on one table and the three children sat on their own table next to us so it worked out perfectly. The staff... More

After reading good reviews about this place we decided to call in through the day & book a table Fri 8th August 14. The lady who took our booking assured us that they served up the finest succulent locally sourced steak in the area. Convinced that we were in for a treat we booked a table for 7.30 pm. We... More

Visited this busy pub on a Saturday night. Good atmosphere, great value for money, excellent service and probably the best pub food I've had anywhere in the country. I had the pot roast which was done to perfection, and gave me something to keep me occupied while my partner attempted (and failed) to consume her "half" portion of Cow Pie.

Despite being regular visits to Keswick for more than 10 years we'd never eaten in the George, only had the odd pint. But that changed when we were ravenous after a day on the fells and I remembered people mentioning the massive portions, of the cow pie in particular. And it was huge,. and very good, too. Thank God I... More
