Extremely dog friendly

Dogs are very welcome here where you can buy treats at the bar when buying the drinks. Best food is the goulash, but ask for a small portion unless you have a really big appetite

Dropped into the Dog and Gun following a sunday stroll and enjoyed a great sunday lunch with all the trimmings. Our only minor complaint was the gravy, seemed as though it was granular rather than home made, but otherwise lunch was great. Surroundings have lost a little of their atmosphere due to the refurbishment but still a very friendly and... More

the most dog friendly pub we've ever been to! dogs and owners made to feel welcome, doggy treat bags for sale at only £1 each bag, that had lots of treats in! We were last to leave pub and staff were brilliant! Thank you!!!!

The pub is lovely, and comfy, and quintessentially Cumbrian (there's a fireplace in which you can wedge coin contributions to mountain rescuers), and spotless. The beers are great and so was Adam, the barman. But for me personally, the goulash was just average. Get extra garlic bread. The fudge cake was dry and lacked flavor - skip dessert.

Always our place for excellent beer (Loweswater Gold is worth a sip if it's on). However, the food has been a little hit and miss. As others have said, the goulash is by far the best and both meaty and veggie varieties are super. A word of warning-do not order a large portion unless you have hollow legs!

Pub was full on first attempt (4 p.m. on a Friday) but having seen the range of beers on offer we just had to try again. Came back at 6.30 and was v lucky to get a seat. Really good atmosphere in this place. Dogs (and their owners) are welcome and the quality of the beer was excellent. Downside was... More

............ as it was 2 years ago - our last visit. Perfect pub: various real ales, lagers, good mix of different spirits, great atmosphere, friendly staff. And it's had a 'make-over;' in those 2 years. From reading other reviews, I'd never believe it was the same pub that I visited! Some people..... Ignore them, it's still great, as is their... More

We'd heard that the goulash was the only thing to eat here; rumour has it that it's the only thing cooked on site. We weren't disappointed; ordered two large plates of goulash, which is served with garlic bread. I think retrospectively I'd have opted for the smaller portion as I barely made a dent in mine (and I do have... More

The Dog and Gun was always our go to bar when visiting Keswick however we decided we would never eat there again after it became dog friendly to the point of being human unfriendly, but we thought we'd give it a go for a post hike pint. Unfortunately the interior designers have been given free reign to do as they like... More
