We sought out the Dog and Gun the day after it reopened after a refurb with great expectations. "Most dog friendly pub in Keswick" the reviews promised, and after a long day in the wet and windy fells we were in great anticipation of a hearty meal and a warm welcome for us and our two dogs. It was very... More

I know none of us likes change, but why did they have to spoil this most precious of pubs? It's charm lay in the olde worlde look and atmosphere, with old oak settles making cosy niches and a roaring fire in the grate. Climbing photos adorned the walls and there was always something to look at. We have been coming... More

At the time of our visit they had just re-opened following refurbishment. They were very busy and offered an excellent range of cask ales.

Returned here two years on, based mainly on memories of great beer and the goulash! Unfortunately we got the timing badly wrong as they were due to close for refurbishment work the very next day - and as a consequence they had only limited ales, and more importantly no goulash :-(( Believe me that it is worth the visit -... Love this pub. Small menu but lovely food. Great place to go for a meal and a drink after walking on the fells with the dog. Always a friendly welcoming atmosphere and you always find someone new to talk to.

This is the second time I have eaten in this pub as myself and my boyfriend visit Keswick regularly. This time I decided to try the Goulash to see what all the fuss was about! It was absolutely unreal... I am a convert! I also had soup to start which was also absolutely delicious. You can tell that all of... More

Tried this place after hearing about it on Facebook, and the fact it's dog friendly. Goulash came highly recommended so we gave that a go - we're not disappointed. Two portion sizes available - we opted for the smaller version, which was just right for lunch. Not a posh gastro pub - nice and old fashioned (how pubs used to... More

We felt lucky to get a table in this popular pub (A rainy Tuesday around 2pm). We both had a small vegetable goulash which came with garlic bread. Extremely tasty and filling-very enjoyable. My partner had a pint of Keswick bitter-"very nice". Would recommend The Dog and Gun if you are lucky enough to find a seat!
