Lovely relaxed atmosphere

From entering the building the relaxed atmoshpere washes over you reminding you of the reasons you chose Keswick for a break. The staff are friendly and very knowledgable about the products they sell (I enjoyed a great run down of the characteristics of the ales on offer). The menu is limited but... read more

A lovely little pub. The service we received was brilliant; friendly and efficient. Our food was served in literally about 2 minutes and was delicious! Very nice indeed.

i've been visiting Keswick for nearly 40 years and have always regarded the Dog and Gun as my local there. No more. It has changes over the years, you can't stop progress but ... The brief for the new design seems to have been 'cram as many people in as possible'. The Dog and Gun used to have soul. This... More

Eaten there on two occasions. Food not good. Sausage and mash one day. Sausages looked and tasted as though they had been cooked in the microwave. On the second occasion just ordered a cheddar cheese and chutney sandwich. Expecting chunky/grated cheddar but instead we had two slices maximum, of wafer thin, pre packed 'plastic, tasteless 'supposedly cheese' . Staff were... More

We visited the Dog and Gun in Keswick three times on our four day break to the Lake District. The atmosphere in the pub was great, the staff were friendly, and we struggled to find a seat as it was so busy on each visit. While we were there we met some nice people, and even friendlier dogs! We would... More

I waited so long to be served I gave up and walked out. No matter how good the beer is I will not suffer poor miserable service.

We have visited the Dog and Gun many times over the years and where there last year a couple of days before it closed for refurbishment. We were interested to see what the new Dog and Gun would be like so we visited for lunch today, although the refurbishment is OK, there are just too many small tables and buffets... More

There is a lack of good places to eat in keswick, thousands of visitors, the dog and gun have a captive customer base and don't seem to want to try. The food is OK but they allow dogs in , unbelievable, under your table , wet dog smell. They are unfriendly staff, the beer is good , served with a... More

I've made it a habit to visit as many pubs and taste as many halfs as i can while in the UK. Walked in with 6 people and was lucky enough to have a large table vacate before my eyes. Large selection of ales and the Goulash is as good as they claim.

We visited a couple of times over a 4 day break with the dog. It was really busy but the staff remained pleasant. The food is OK if you are enjoying sitting in there but to be honest the food wasn't great and there are so many other less busy nice places to eat I would probably only go in... More
