This used to be a very nice café, but I have been disappointed on recent visits. It's not so much the food that has changed as the attitude of the staff. Most of them seem unfriendly, and woe betide you if you make the mistake of sitting down at an empty table instead of waiting at the (unoccupied) till for... More

Nice to find somewhere that does gluten free bread without the staff looking at you as if you have just landed from Mars. I had scrambled eggs on toast. They were fresh, hot and tasty. Will returnn again. Excellent.

Poorly staffed and disorganised.Seemingly unable to cope with lunchtime demands at the height of the tourist season. An announcement of "it's a 10 minute wait" to the ridiculously patient queue when there are 7 empty tables (some still needing to be cleared) prompted my teenage daughter to volunteer to clear the tables-she was obviously hungry! Then seating a couple at a... More

We have regularly had a breakfast or lunch at Kendal Artisan and never been disappointed, unfortunately the excellent service we used to receive has dramatically taken a downward spiral in the last 6-8 weeks. Not sure if the demise in service has coincided with the offer of free daily coffee for locality card holders but after arriving for lunch today... More

Tend to go here on a daily basis to get a coffee albeit a free one due to the loyalty card scheme. Unfortunately as soon as the staff either recognise you or realise you have a loyalty card they are not interested. If they do not like the loyalty scheme they shouldn't offer it. There is one particular member of... More

Having had a really nice meal at Artisan before, my partner and I haven't even considered trying elsewhere for our sunday lunch. On arrival, we chose a table outside as it was a rather pleasant day and we both enjoy a cigarette with our beverage. The only available table has not been cleared yet but we were sure this would... Only use this cafe because we get a free drink with the Booths loyalty card. But even that deal isn't worth the hassle. The staff are not interested, took our order for one tea and one coffee plus scones, walked five paces then returned saying she had forgotten what we wanted!!!! I'd rather pay more for friendly service and where... More

Very ordinary menu. Prince Charles opened Artisan when it sold local food and had a small cafe/restaurant. They gradually gave up on local food downstairs and expanded the eating area. It had a good start with interesting food reflecting the superior food store upstairs. Now it feels as if they've given up. The menu is limited and boring. Quality is... More
