Ambitious ideas - often gets it right too!

Do try this place - it's different - and a real surprise for a little town like Kendal. Might seem a lot to pay for a packed lunch/meal but the £5.45 takeout from their canteen up the street is every bit as good as eating in - possibly better!? Enough for two I think. Nice cafe - was packed... read more

Cute little place. You can almost taste the freshness in the food. I wish we had eaten in the canteen and not the the little shop bit as it was a bit overwhelming being new to the place. Would recommend the pulled pork sandwich and peanut-butter and caramel brownie. Yummy! Most of the staff were lovely but the one who... More

Southerners, let me translate for you: At Baba Ganoush you will pay half the price of down south, yet get twice the quality you'd expect. I had the Welsh rarebit, which was good but too cheesy (there must've been a block of cheese in it) - and two slices, when just one would've done! JB had the potato hash with... More

We were staying in Kendal and popped into this café/deli to collect some take away lunches prior to setting off into the hills. The food was excellent (we ordered a couple of the ploughman's salad boxes), all meat and cheese were succulent especially the beautifully rare roast beef. There was also an excellent range of cakes to counter balance the... More

First time visiting this cafe and really enjoyed it, can't wait to go back. So many things I want to try on the menu.Today I had the cheese and ham melts with salad and caramelised onion relish and crisps, but it was a hard decision to make!!! So much looked good.

This little restaurant is a favourite for a tasty breakfast, brunch or lunch. It's always busy, which is a good indicator of the quality of the food - excellent and well cooked. I'd recommend the soups (some thick enough to be called a stew), eggy bread (with or without bacon) and the salads are fabulous. The staff are always friendly... More

This is one of our favourite breakfast spots - good choice, proper coffee and friendly staff. Pick up a loaf from the bakery next door - always excellent!

Was recommended to this hidden gem. It took a bit of finding but was worth the effort. Lovely salads and quiche and very reasonably priced. Friendly staff and good service.

Every time I have been in, the staff are friendly and the food has been great. Their cold meats look of high quality (home cooked) taste great and the portions are not stingy, I think the "Would you like leaves with that?" is a bit pretentious, but the food makes up a bit of silliness from an otherwise great experience....
