Not many places as busy mid week as on a Saturday, so be prepared to wait, but once you try Baba Ganoush you will return. All staff friendly and efficient, cliental mostly locals and a real buzz to the place. Food excellent, well presented and good quality produce. With a menu to suit most and very well priced. Two main... More

liked the atmosphere, style and food. Has a cool city feel in a way, but quite relaxed too....good choice on the menu, different options, right up my street. Quality food, not the largest portions and a little expensive, but will go again.

Regular haunt, and it's always brilliant. Varied menu means that every visit is different, food wise, but the staff are always helpful and charming. Well worth a visit .

stopped for a quick and early lunch at the main cafe rather than the quick takeaway with sit down areas. Service was friendly and efficient and the food, I had rarebit and friend had veg soup, was delicious and pretty good value. It all seemed very fresh, good quality. I would definitely recommend

Stopped by for lunch in September, this is a very small but beautifully presented cafe/restaurant .. I guess that's why it's called a canteen. The quality of the food and the staff is excellent, very efficient but also very personal. We had a reasonably light bite as we had lots to do in the lakes and with that backdrop, remembering... Disappointing. Have always loved going here as the food is so nice but today I couldn't have been made to feel more unwelcome if they'd tried. Don't try going here with a baby, first you'll be told to take your pushchair outside and leave it on the street (even though there would have been space for it folded up in... More

Stumbled across this little gem after a business meeting at the town hall. I only had a sandwich and crisps but they made it to order with fresh ham and whole grain mustard on a really freshly baked white barm (roll if your from London). Great service by a genuinely pleasant lady and sat inside to eat in and take... More

Tucked away down an alley (yard in Kendal-speak) opposite their sister shop but well worth seeking out for breakfast through lunch to tea. Successful fusion of English cafeteria with Middle-Eastern mezze. Quietly veggie. Vegetable soup was industrial-strength warming and filling. Mezze are well-mixed and tasty. Or you can have a bacon roll with ketchup. Fine selection of delicious cakes to... More

Great place for breakfast, yummy Cumberland sausage in a roll, perfect coffee, staff great and so helpful. Would have used for lunch but was out and about on short trip.
