This place is a really nice cafe to have breakfast. The food is reasonably priced and it tastes amazing. The lady taking orders and serving was welcoming and happy to accommodate the changes we wanted to the set breakfasts. There is a good vegetarian option which was well received by the vegetarian member of our party.

we had a fabulous breakfast (off menu) that they were happy to provide. They also gave us packed lunches over 2 days which were fresh and very lovely, Would happily recommend for fuel before a good walk up the hills. Good service and great staff.

We have used the Union Jack several times and have never been disappointed. The food is always good, service excellent and the staff are very friendly.

Union Jack is a local favourite. A traditional British cafe, specialising in wonderful, all day cooked breakfasts. But this is no greasy spoon. The food is of the highest quality and the meat and eggs all locally sourced. For those who insist on eating a "proper" lunch at lunchtime, there are tempting offerings to choose from, including soups, pies and... More

Fabulous take-away lunch! I treat myself to a ham & cheese toastie and a portion of chips. The toastie was delicious - proper chunks of roast ham and plenty of really tasty cheese. The chips were lovely too. They'd put a lot of chippy's to shame! Under £5 as well. Will be going back!

12 September 2013 I asked my wife where she wanted to eat for our eleventh wedding anniversary and she replied "The Union Jack". We both had the veggie grill. The service was prompt and friendly, the food was freshly prepared, plentiful and delicious and the bill was just over ten pounds! This is traditional British cafe food at its very... More

This café was full and people were waiting for seats! 1. Chips, egg and beans. 2. Quiche and salad with chips. 3. Cumberland sausage, chips and peas. The chips were hand cut, delicious and hot. Everything was just about as good as you can imagine. So that's three meals and drinks for £17.95! So if you're a fat bloke who... More

I don't often eat out in Kendal as I live there so tend to eat at home but the Union Jack is one of the places I do go for. The food is simple and always seems to be made to order. Prices at aren't had either. On my last visit, I think had a Ham, cheese and pineapple toastie,... More

My wife and I popped in for lunch- who could resist a place with so many glowing reviews? Straightaway, we had a difficulty as I am of 'a fuller figure' and the fixed seating didn't allow for someone of my build to sit down. Thankfully, there were two chairs secreted away by the lower level, rear doors, so I was... More
