Good food

This is nice pub to have lunch, situated near the entrance to Sizergh Castle. I had a large, nice, juicy rump steak. I had asked for a medium steak but what I was served was medium to well done but the steak was tender. The waiter was friendly, helpful and efficient but we did have to wait quite a... read more

This pub is just outside Sizergh Castle. There is a reasonable menu with friendly service. We had the rump steak - tender but slightly overdone, steak pie - chock full of tender meat, yum, Lancaster hot pot - tender tasty chunks of lamb, and the 'Strick' burger - a thick meaty patty for the burger. Overall a very good meal... More

I went to the Strickland with 13 friends in late January, we pre-booked a table and were given a room to ourselves upstairs. It was a fairly loud and excitable crowd who hadn't seen each other for a long time. The staff were fantastic, they were attentive and around when we needed something. Everyone's food came out freshly cooked and... More

Lovely atmosphere with flagged floors and open fires. Well kept beer (according to my 4 companions). Very tasty soup (@ £5.00 there's never quite enough of it for me - although the rustic bread makes up for it!). Try the Lancashire cheese rarebit, too.

Returned again after several visits. Good great as usual although the steak in the steak and kidney pie was very tough but the pastry was amazing! Biggest issue was the chairs which although it appears to be the thing to have old chairs they aren't very comfortable. We noticed every table that came in had to swap at least one... More

The Strickland remains one of our favourite hostelries in the area - excellent food, friendly staff and good atmosphere - we rather like the stone floor and non-matching slightly shabby vintage furnishings - and of course, dog-friendly throughout. The only reason for not giving the full 5 stars is: a) prices a little expensive compared with the competition, and: b)... More

We have been here three times, all of which have been great visits. I think it's get quite busy, so you may need to consider pre-booking. The menu has good choice and everything has always been tasty, well presented and we have enjoyed our choices. The children's portions are huge! We think the decoration is stunning, very warm and atmospheric... More

We had a large group booking and the choice between a set and normal lunchtime menu. I made the mistake of choosing the lamb hotpot at £11.95. To say I was surprised at the small dish containing the hotpot, a chunk of white bread and a pot of cold red cabbage is an understatement. There was nothing wrong with the... More
