We are lucky enough to live quite near this excellent establishment and have enjoyed some excellent meals and good beers all summer. In good weather, the beer garden is a delight or why not just sit out front and watch the world go by? Just outside of Kendal and just off the duel carriageway linking the M6 with the southern... After previous occasions when the main criticism was inconsistency (food /service etc) we have been twice on a Monday evening to find the place busy, service great and food delicious both times. Coupled with reasonable prices, great choice of drinks this should become the number one place to eat in Kendal -you will need to book.

What a gem on the outskirts of Kendal. Situated on the approach road to the National Trust property Sizergh Castle. The staff were soooo welcoming. We three ladies sampled Sunday lunch, 2 beef and one roast lamb. I have never seen such large and scrummy Yorkshire puddings. The portions are ample, so 3 courses were never going to be possible... We had lunch after visiting Sizergh Castle. The pub is charming with wooden tables and open fires. The staff show you to a table and take your drink orders. There is a lunch time special of 2 courses for £10.95 which is great value, when you compare the main course prices.I had White bait for starters Cumberland sausages with mash and gravy... A little while ago this place was amazing, but then some of the key staff left and it wasn't the same. I'm pleased to tell you that it's back on track. The new manager has brought the sparkle back and the food had returned to its former excellent standard. I'm going back next week so I'm sure I'll get the... More

Had a fabulous meal....the nicest homemade gluten free bread ever....batch load with real butter. I had the Cumberland sausage which was made fresh and gluten free....I was too full for the Gluten free brownie but I'm sure it was as good as everything else. Will definitely return.

We visited here as a family of four on a busy Saturday evening to celebrate my birthday. As we are local we have visited here several times before so knew what to expect...or so we thought. We could not fault the food although my husband had to re choose as his first choice had run out. Our big disappointment was... More

Staying nearby with Bob the Westie we intended visit this 'dog friendly' inn for an evening meal, however we were only able to go for a lite lunch. The inn looked super inside, loads of character, very friendly bar staff (Bob appreciated the dog biscuit), the sandwiches were anything but 2 slices of bread - they were hearty & delicious!... More

We visited here for Sunday lunch as we were visiting a nearby castle. A pleasant lady found us a table. The menu was a good choice but we chose a traditional three course. It was a reasonable price. Every course was fabulous and the Yorkshire was wonderful. It was a good find and on our list for a re visit.

We have been here before and we have always enjoyed good food and good choice of beer and wines. There is a good choice and some dishes are special dishes not always on a pub menu. Inside the décor is very traditional with lots of character and some lovely antique pieces. The staff are friendly and efficient. Outside seating is... More
