Exceptional little tea room

It is the kind of traditional place. Forget the fancy stuff and let's get back to nostalgic. Just a lovely pot of tea with its huge but classic sponge cake and you will fall in love with this place. I had carrot cake and raspberry sponge cake and they both were fantastic. Make sure you do arrive... read more

Whilst on a weekend break with another couple, my boyfriend and I stumbled across the cafe while looking for a place to stop for lunch and were drawn across the street by the massive cakes in the window! We popped our head into the small eatery and were disappointed to find all the tables were full. We walked round the... More

Very friendly staff, lovely coffee and the biggest piece of chocolate cake I think I've ever had. We didn't have meal but they looked great too. What could be better.

As I can see happened to others from their reviews, we were drawn in by the size but the quality of the cakes is very good indeed!

The shop window drew us in...the cakes were massive. Never seen any so big. I shared a blueberry and lemon monster slice with my husband and we only just managed to finish it. My friends husband made the mistake of ordering a slice each and had to ask a waitress for a box to take some home. She said there... More

When we are in the Lake District a trip to Hawkshead and the Sun Tea Rooms go hand in hand and we must have been at least once a year in the last 7 years. This time we went on Bank Holiday Monday and it was heaving. Fair enough it is only a small cafe with little room between tables... More

The cakes here are huge- specially made tins from Liverpool Shipyards about 21" diameter and 3 layers deep-2 portions were more than enough for 4 of us. It's a tiny place, only 20 seats and we were so impressed we went back the next day for more. The ladies who run it are great- they put candles on a piece of... More

We ate here when we arrived in Hawkshead, we were wowed by the fab looking cakes in the window! It dies say on the door they can't accomadte pushchairs due to the size, we luckily managed to squeeze in with our folded pushchair as it was a little to cool to sit outside. Served quickly and drinks arrived in a... More

I visited Hawkshead with a group of people . I had been recommender the tea rooms as a great place to eat. I was greeted by a waitress and I asked for a table of 3. I also asked her if they did mashed potato she said yes. My wife wanted fish cakes but they came with a beet root... More
