Short stop on long trip

We always used to stop in Grasmere for gingerbread when our children were young and enjoyed visists to the tea gardens while stopped. At our now grown-up children's suggestion, we came through the lakes rather than down the motorway and stopped here for a late breakfast. My vegetarian wife loves... read more

We always used to stop in Grasmere for gingerbread when our children were young and enjoyed visists to the tea gardens while stopped. At our now grown-up children's suggestion, we came through the lakes rather than down the motorway and stopped here for a late breakfast. My vegetarian wife loves cheese scones and told me that the one she had... More

Called in for a light lunch. Chose soup but although it was tasty, for lentil and bacon it was thin. The bread roll accompanying the soup was one of those cheap white home-bake rolls and it was the size of a golf ball. The whole dish seemed very mean in terms of quantity and quality. Compared with the other lovely... More

This is a lovely place to go in the heart of Grasmere, whether you want lunch or a cup of coffee with a delicious home made cake. The interior is smart and modern but there is also the possibility of sitting on the terrace overlooking the river. On our latest visit I had an excellent and very seasonal cup of... More

Our favourite stop for lovely soup and a coffee. Not sure where people have found the rude staff, they were warm and friendly. Give it a try, you will love it.

We visited on a rainy day after a walk around the lake. The cafe was lovely and warm with a friendly welcome from the lady behind the counter. Admittedly, the cafe was not busy, but we received our food quickly and we were very pleased that the staff were happy to provide a dish that wasn't on the menu when... More

This was our second visit to this delightful cafe overlooking the river. You can also sit outside on the heated patio. The food and service are spot on. Its a very relaxing cafe.

This place may only be a cafe but seems to think it is acceptable for its staff to be cocky, rude and down right obnoxious to its patrons. Not good enough and the cake was pretty average. With a plethora of alternatives, don't bother with this cafe. I certainly won't be back.

Having wandered around the charming village of Grasmere with my family, we happened upon this cafe and decided to take a quick break and get a quick hot drink. Whilst waiting in the queue (they weren't even busy but the staff were slow), a young chap with a beard who wasn't happy about a cream tea was dealt with really... More

If you're looking for jaw-droppingly rude service, under baked scones and artificial tasting chocolate cake, then this is the place for you. Upon ordering a scone with cream and jam were given a white substance that tasted like aerated, watered-down, UHT cream substitute. Thinking we'd been given the wrong thing, we took it back to the counter and asked whether... More
