Avoid at all cost, disgusting!!!

Stench of wet dog and filthy sticky tables should have been enough to put us off but everywhere else was full. Ordered 2 full English breakfasts and a kids meal for £27 with teas and a lemonade for it to arrive almost stone cold. We persevered and how I wish we hadn't!!! Having eaten half the... read more

We've just come back from a day in Grasmere and I'm a bit shocked at these reviews. We genuinely commented to ourselves how friendly the waiter was. Another chap jumped up to put two tables together for us as soon as we came in, and was friendly throughout. Perhaps they took the reviews to heart and acted on them. The... More

Surly staff, overpriced poorly presented food, tables are sticky and grubby looking - this has to be the worst place in the Lake District to eat. We only went there because the lively buzzing restaurant across the road was full and we were on a tight time schedule so not in a position to spend time looking at more restaurants.... More

Saturday the 9th August 2014 at the Cumbrian café, and I use the term loosely, one tea, one coffee and a pasty with watery gravy, £9.85, when I queried this, an obese, surly man said the prices were on the board, all I could see were pasty, chips and peas priced, how we stayed I still don't know, but what... Shocking. Only wish i had read the other reviews before spending my money! Went early one sunday morning which is clearly not a good time to visit as unfortunately this was the only place open! Awful food and coffee one of the most awful coffees we have had. Tables needed a good clean and the staff needed to cheer up!... More

Called in here one lunch time. Should have been suspicious as everywhere else in the village was full and this place was almost empty. We each had a bowl of soup with a roll and a pot of tea. The soup was tasty but the portion was quite stingy. The accompanying bread was a piece of french stick from the... More

We popped into the Cumbrian for a nice lunch. We were so sorry afterwards. It cost us over £25 for two fish and chips and two coffees.I would not have minded if they had been fresh and tasty, but they must have been to the supermarket Iceland for their produce. It must be a terrible example of British cuisine to all the foreign visitors... With all the choices of lunch today, we agreed as a family to toss acoin to decide, over all we were very very disappointed for a family of 5 a very small light lunch cost us over £45 . I wouldn't have minded but the jacket spuds were tiny with a bit of salad othe side. Seriously my advice you... More

We popped in to the Cumbrian early one morning for breakfast (having driven into Grasmere the back way, not realising it had so much more to offer just a little further along the road). We stood in the empty seating area in front of the counter for five minutes before anyone came to serve us and what eventually did greet... More

Short of time, with only 40 minutes until our bus was due, we popped into The Cumbrian for a quick light lunch. "Homemade Vegetable Soup and Our Freshly Baked Bread" was undoubtedly commercially-produced soup accompanied by a small roll of the part-baked variety readily available in packets of six in any supermarket. Unfortunately, the roll had clearly spent not enough... More
