We thought this would be a lovely place to eat, right in the middle of Grasmere! We sat outside as we had a dog and large pushchair with us! What we ordered had no resemblance to what actually came. Fresh made bloomer bread turned out to be bog standard sliced bread, and to make it worse it was coated thickly... More

Variety on the menu. Well cooked. I had lamb - delicious and big portion. My other half had steak and ale pie - very nice - he enjoyed it, but portion not big enough.

We ate here on our last night in Grasmere and were pleasantly surprised having read varied reviews. The food was of excellent quality and service was good. Overall very good value for money, will certainly eat here again when we next visit Grasmere.

Being the only pub in Grasmere, we thought that the food would be good, as we have only had positive experiences at English pubs since we've been here. We were completely wrong, and had I read the reviews on TA before, we wouldn't have gone here. The food is terrible-- even something as simple as mashed potatoes were awful- hard... More

The food here is a bit hit and miss, had filled Yorkshire which was nice, but second time had burnt fish and chips. Real ale selection is quite poor, only the Hawkshead Windermere Ale was any good. This is a busy place and some of the tables are squeezed in, particularly the tables just to the right of the entrance... More

The pub has certainly had a facelift since I was last here. Some of the seating is ,to say the least, a little tight even for average sized people but generally it is comfortable. The menu covers the usual pub food and the standard and price were both good. If you like to have a starter there is not much... More

I followed my colleagues choice of Fried Haddock and Chips. Served with Peas and Tartar Sauce it looked good although well cooked. The fish inside the batter was almost non existent, I thought it might have been refried from lunchtime. We both should have sent the meal back it was so bad. most other meals around looked good and guests... More
